  13. Interesting picture. Hood scoop on the truck, a 57 Ford (58?) dirt track car, a 63 up Corvette Roadster with no windshield, and an earlier Vette in for a paint job with a $550.00 price on the windshield. Owner probably couldn't swing the 50 to 75 dollars to have it painted, and decided to sell it. Now the headlight bezels that aren't on it would probably cost you that much. My Dad use to paint complete cars in the backyard for 30 or 40 bucks. He was a good painter, and it would have been Lacquer, so they always came out nice. At that time if you could make 50 to 100 on side jobs a week you were living large.

Those truck hood scoops were sourced from Ford for the Pontiac Super Duty racing program, I think there were two styles.

    Hello,

Having driven down Lombard Street in San Francisco many times from inside of our dad’s 1949 Buick era to 2019 most recently, it is a weird street that needs careful attention to your techniques. Being in the back seat was not the same as driving, but each time, my brother and I stood up to see the steep curves as we turned. Then when in college, nearby in 65-66 and back again in 67-69 with my wife in the El Camino, we got nearly having the same feeling of going over when the curving, off camber down hill slope does tricks to your car.

I can attest to all sorts of vehicles going down in each one. That includes a 3 cylinder Geo Metro I drove when visiting my brother in the UCSF Medical Hospital for treatment for radiation. When he was ok to go home, he wanted to go down the steep off camber road to lead the way through town to the Bayshore freeway to the South San Francisco airport. With two guys, two suitcases and just general stuff the dinky convertible held its own, downhill, as long as I did not accelerate. As soon as I did, it felt like going over on the next curve. Yikes…

    upload_2024-1-20_4-20-50.png SF fog…

In our mid 60s road trips, we would get right into the coastal fog areas. San Francisco is no stranger to fog. As we were visiting various areas of the city during those "Summer of Love" years, It was clear one moment and the next, locked in heavy, deep fog. But, parts of the city were bright and sunny until the afternoon winds blew the thick fog all over the Bay Area. Even across the bay in the Oakland-Berkely area. (suspension bridges are strange anyway, but to cross over a thick foggy bridge was added anxiety for us.)

Knowing my 65 El Camino, with the wide Inglewood Redline tires and rims, it was stable in almost every driving situation, loaded back bed or empty. But, if there was some air in the shocks for heavy loads and I forgot to bleed it out, the rear would have felt like it would come over the top, while headed downhill. And, Lombard Street is definitely, downhill...
