How many quarts of engine oil are required, add one for remote oil filter... Having trouble finding this information, have a 53/54 Chevrolet shop manual and it's not there. Thanks, Dyno Dave 5window, did'nt find the number in what you sent.
But, Thank You.... the other nine can shove it up you know where !!!

Spark plug wires appear to be red.

I’ll bet he wants us to identify the white and chrome thing mounted to the firewall with 2 hoses connected at the bottom. Nice hose crimps by the way!

I only like black spark plug wires but that’s a personal choice.

I run 4 qts in mine but that's without a filter since I change it regularly. I'd start there and then see wherr the level is after running it.

Screenshot (771).png Screenshot (773).png Well hell, you won't find 1960 engine specs in a 1954 book.

If it is a 1960 261 out of a C 60 the pan holds 5 quarts plus the filter 5-1/2 quarts on a freshly assembled "dry" engine. according to the GM heritage center vehicle info kits archives.

Below the image from 1960 is the image from 54.

That and most years you can find here. https://www.gm.com/heritage/archive/vehicle-information-kits

The 54 truck page being here https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...its/chevrolet-trucks/1954-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf

Already pretty much answered. I'm not 100% on in lines but small blocks are usually garuanteed to be 5 quarts. Filters depending on size are going to make up .2-.5 of a quart

Put atleast 5 in it and if it starts ticking add a quart. 4 would be atleast at the minimum and and 6? At the most I'd say. To much oil you'll get a crank slap.

The owners manual usually has this information in an easy to find place...although you'd need the owner's manual for the engine came from.

This is for a 59 truck, might help.

My BAD.....Totally forgot to mention the 261 is from a 1960 Canadian Pontiac Sedan. Came with a # 848 head, I retained the hydraulic lifters and deleted the fabric timing gears. So still on the hunt for that oil can count. Thanks to all that replied.... Dyno Dave

how about a picture of your oil pan?

Out of curiosity I'll get a photo posted, thinking it's a standard Chevy pan. Could I ask what oil brand and rate you would suggest to use in this street engine...
To Close This Post OFF.... Canadian Pontiac 261 with filter take (6) quarts of engine oil. Thanks to all that forwarded information, dyno dave
