I've always used a yogurt or margarine container or lid to put them in wherever they are in/around the vehicle.

Look for Cedar Scented moth balls. Same thing with a more tolerable scent.

It didn't work on that squirrel!

I buy panty hose and moth balls at the dollar ($1.25) store and fill a panty hose with moth balls and hang them in the car and under to hood to deter rodents. It works better than most any of the other old wives tales for preventing mice. I did the Irish Spring shavings in a bowl and the dang mice just built a nest on top of the soap.

Breathing moth balls is not so good for us. I'm getting to like the smell.

    My question of the day:
How the heck do them moths fly with balls that BIG?

Peppermint oil on cotton balls. If you use the larger "sticks" of bait, be sure to fasten them down. Critters will haul them off and stash them for later. My dad kept putting them out in an old station wagon, thinking he was killing all the rats in the state. Then he found all of it under the passenger seat.

I just buy the cheap stuff from Wal Mart or the Grocery store. Mix a bottle or 2 with water in a sprayer and go to town.

  6. One word: “Blacksnakes”! I have a couple living in my shop, and my mouse problem is all but nonexistent. I’d rather have snakes than filthy mice.
That said, I do have peppermint scent bags in my car…

I had to google your black snakes over there in the U.S, and I see they are harmless and nonvenonous.
The Red-Bellied Black Snakes we have down here in Australia are a whole different ball game.
Ours would not be a good thing to have in your shop...............:eek::eek:

  8. I place moth ball packets on the floor of the outhouse at our cabin. Squirrels who used to try and start a nest/home in there, don't bother at all. They would, several times a year, start piling leaves on the floor, in hopes of a home. They didn't mind human waste smell, but couldn't take moth balls.

The plastic insulation on the wires are a Soya base plastic. I use an Ultrasonic mouse repellant and it works. You can get them on Amazon. I had the wiring chewed up on several cars and since installing them I have not had a problem. I have a lot of Live Oaks and lots of acorns and lots of Squirrels and other varmints image.jpg

IMG_7978.jpeg I have a 66 KW that I got back on the road after it had sat for several years up in KS . I had removed a huge mouse nest that was up in the headliner . I had 2 of these in the cab . The mice moved into the cab this fall . So I tossed in two bags of mothballs and a tray of Osage orange apples. No mice since . I’ve used the botanical rodent stuff in the other grain trucks and the combine cab with success in the past . But not this winter. Mice really like the seat foam in the 77 F700 . Everything got mothballed. My 57 Fairlane 500 was pulled out of a pasture. I’ve fought keeping mice out of it ever since I’ve gotten it back on the road . Mothballs and Osage Orange apples keep out the mice .

Rodents can be a nightmare once they get in. I had to park my '35 ford pickup out side for a while the got in the cavity above the windshield where the wiper motors are and made a huge nest in there it to me hours to find the little stinkers. 20180905_190942_Film1~2.jpg
That was a fun truck sold it to pay for my new knees.:( stupid insurance co pays .

  15. I gotta buddy who use to let me store my sedan delivery in his pole barn over the winter. I'd put moth balls inside and under the hood. In April I'd remove the mothballs and drive the car home with the windows down. Smell was gone and the rodents never bothered the car at all.

I like the smell of moth balls. About after Christmas dinner ‘22 I went out to drive my OT German car and got a “burned out lightbulb” warning on the dash. Went under the hood to check and found that some of my wiring harness had been eaten up. And while I was dining on Turkey a guess a rat had brought in his main course of pigeon (Squab en francais)!

I sprayed mint oil and no more cleaning up was weird as I found BONES and FEATHERS of the pigeon... Repairing the harness wasn’t too bad especially as good old Canadian hockey tape was a perfect match what the Germans used

Seriously though, what do you have with a moth ball in your left hand and another one in your right hand? One hell of a big moth!

  19. Moth balls work.

Irish Spring Soap bars. NOPE. I had several bars with mouse teeth chew marks on them, and them making nests in the car. That is urban legend they repel mice.

Dryer sheets have worked great for years in an OT camper that winters in a barn with no food stored in either. I put the sheets everywhere inside the camper, and outside over all potential entry points.
If you caulk any holes or gaps in a building, shove some bronze wool (doesn’t rust like steel) into the caulking. The varmints won’t chew their way into the place.
Try searching “active ingredient in mothballs”. Nasty stuff.

I would think the best squirrel repellent would be a Pertonix box laying on the seat.

20240120_133259.jpg I've been using this for a few years now with great results. It uses peppermint oil. Just spray it all around the tool and parts shead every six months or so and every time you walk in it smells like a candy shop :D

A friend of mine who has a horse stable has solved his mouse and rat problem. He mixes flour with Portland cement powder. He puts the mixture where it will not get wet or any good animals can get at it, and the mice eat it. It turns to cement in their stomachs and kills them. If any other animals eat the dead mice it doesn't hurt them.
