It appears that a good friend of mine has just been scammed for a tidy sum from a scrotum calling itself Justin_robkustim who appears to be Justin Bonera , or at least using that linked identity on their Instagram page . This ass has also hijacked the web site of Murray Kustoms by creating a new front page for that site and changing the contact info . Murray Kustoms have been informed .
There is a contact number locating this individual to Beumont Texas , but thats probably fake too.
He trusted this piece of shit who sent pics lifted from an old HAMB advertisement for a Lincoln Steering wheel.
Since the money was sent no further correspondence was forthcoming, so we did some digging ..
FAKE pics FAKE web page FAKE deal .
    Instagram advise thus :
The number of times an account changes its username may help you identify whether it's authentic or misleading.
justin_robkustim has changed their username 16 times.

Says it all really, let your friends know . These social media sites dont give a toss what there participants are up to and as such are complicit in there crimes ..

Dont let yourself be caught out , Dont get to starry eyed over parts that are probably to good to be true .. My buddy has come to terms with his mishap but the least we could do was raise the issue as a reminder to be care full .

I have heavily re edited this post to be less of a rant and more of a cautious reminder .

He did indeed but unfortunately sent Friends and Family so no come back .. :( Probably better if he paid the fees and secured the insurance by sending Business .. Had he mentioned the deal before he paid we might have found all the dodgy links and uncovered the scam but we only found out after the event and the deed was done .

    The shits for sure.
I’m sure there’s been other threads on scammers that use the same town and state. Seems familiar for some reason.

I don't think there is any need for the pics above which is a very different kind of scam and pretty obvious and amateur effort. This was a less obvious endeavour of a more genuine appearance .

Although the pics were lifted from an older HAMB classified I am not 100% sure if the transaction originated on the HAMB

Murray Kustoms , whos web page had been copied and cloned and presented as the scammers web page , albeit a rather crap attempt if you took the time to read through it offered some degree of legitimacy.

Murray Kustoms run by Heath Murray were contacted and confirmed that they had been told there images were being used by a third party but until we sent the link to the cloned site they were at a loss , and indeed had learned that some potential customers had paid deposits to this scammer believing the communications it to be the genuine web page and contact.
They have taken steps to getting the web page removed .

My buddies scam originated from a response to an Instagram post but there are similar items being sold on the HAMB classifieds

@redoxide not trying to make fun of you or your friend , but scammers scam anyway they can . I got scammed by a “ Hamb member “ years ago , talked the talk and walked the walk , then he walked with my hard earned money . I was beyond upset once the scam happened and realized how dumb I was .

they are doing it at my work , we sell forklift some upwards of $100,000 dollars each . They have hacked my accountants e-mail and send out an e mail saying the banking info has changed and deposit into xxx account , then delete the e-mails . We have to be incredibly diligent in how we accept payment now as the scammers are rampant and bold .

I’ve seen the “ real , but fake “ website scam a few times , you need to check your search bar and make sure it’s the actual site .

almost got scammed by a reputable site , the email sent to me for payment was slightly off on the wording so made me look a bit harder , well yeah instead of a .com website it was a .ccm or some other nonsense.

can never be to careful . Sucks not trusting folks anymore .

Never been scammed by a real Hamber but a bunch of years ago I sent a few hundred to a Hamber for parts and he just disappeared. I thought he smoked me so I had my desk sergeant give him a call. I found out he was in the slam for nonsupport. I felt really bad for leaning on the guy. When he got out he made good on the deal no problem. Stand up guy.

Most of the time you just have to lick your wounds and move on. I'm still waiting for that Angolan Prince to send my check from his state lottery.....

so if this was a scam from instagram, is there a way of reporting him and getting him shut down before he does it to more people? I ask this because I am not a member there and do not know

We never missed the irony in the user name either :( or the spelling in KusTIM
@ Moriarity Instagram have been alerted , Pay Pal are not interested, Probably an exercise in futility but just tying to limit the damage these people can cause .

It gets me how people deal with people cheating Pay Pal and are surprised when they get cheated.

It's been said too many times, "Never use family and friends to send a paypal payment".
Members here also use the friends and family only to sell their stuff. I don't care who you are, I won't use it.

I wonder if a hacker type could run a reverse scam on him or at least find his real identity through a bullshit attempt to buy something from him. He has page after page of pictures, half are probably harvested from here. I don't do Instagram, you can poke around a minute before it tries to make you sign in or join.

I was denied a sale here for not doing FandF. I didn’t get into it much, just moved along. I figured to add the 3.5? %, would all be good. Still “no”. Maybe tax implications? I dunno.
But many most buys I do here are FandF, sellers have long history here or are regular posters on the boards.

My buddy has lost out he accepts that, and that he has been naive and stupid in respect of the purchase and his dealing with payment . Thats not the issue here , the purpose is to inform other folk of this activity ..

Not everyone is as switched on as you guys .. So I guess in the heat of the parts chase with rose tinted specs fixed on the prize, the word smithery might pass an 83 year old by .. Its doubtful the name is a clue, just a coincidence .. But thanks for the fine detective work :) and thanks to the likes of Facebook and Instagram for facilitating these types of scams . With 16 previous IDs I guess even Instagram and there security measures are to dumb to id a scammer .. Modern world I guess , I truly hope none of you ever get burned .

  25. Sounds like it was an Instagram scammer.
    Either way hard lesson

If you don't know the person. do not pay friends and family on PayPal
If it's claiming to be an actual shop do not do not pay friends and family on PayPal

if the sought you out and say they have the part you need or their friend does. Instant scam.

I have a full transcript fro my buddy now , and there is a bit of the above involved . The wheel for sale he responded to was not the one he ended up paying for . He happened to mention he missed out on a LZ whell a couple of years ago and low and behold , an LZ wheel was procured from his ass for sale ..

Yep all the signs were present but my old buddy is a trusting soul as many old timers are , since most of them grew up with some integrity and this modern way of commerce is just a bit trickier for them to navigate .

There is an ageing population present on here, and it could be a target for scammers , the purpose of the post is simply to make folk aware .. Some constructive responses support that .

I had a person contact me a several years ago. I posted an ad for a part I was looking for on the H.A.M.B. I found that the search went outside the H.A.M.B. and some scammer contacted me saying he had the part I was looking for. I asked him to send me a pic and I never got one after a few of requests. I can't remember the details, but I fucked with him for two weeks saying I sent the money, and I don't know what happened, etc. Told him I resent it etc. I finally told him to go fuck himself in whatever country he lives in! The end. The part is very rare, and I have still never seen even a picture of one after ten years of searching.
