A couple days ago I was unloading groceries from the trunk of the roadster, and a guy walked up the driveway and introduced himself. He said he has a '34 5 window, told me he lives, literally, right around the corner from us. Turns out we'd seen him and his car at a big "Cars and Coffee" event here (Sarasota) last winter but had not seen each other in the neighborhood. We chatted a while and agreed that we'd get together yesterday and go to an advertised event at the Sarasota Cl***ic Car Museum, which is just a couple blocks from both of us.
We met yesterday morning, a buddy of his was there with his '34, the black one, we joked that we were having the car show that was cool for us right at the curb in front of his house and maybe we didn't need to go. We made the (very short) drive to the museum, and were surprised that we were the only people there. We hung around for a few minutes, three other people rolled in and right back out, seeing nothing happening, so we drove to a little place down the street and had "second breakfast".
It turned out to be more fun than had the event actually taken place, none of us know what had happened. Supposedly they have a get together every month on this weekend, have flyers and posted on their FB page, but the parking lot was empty when we rolled back by a couple hours later.
The upshot of this (admittedly long and boring) post is that after 3 winters here, I met someone in the 'hood with like interests and life experience, and hot rods are the reason.
Get out and drive 'em. 47ED2A10-D3A4-4B5F-BD6C-55669B3C3549.jpeg D50AEE64-E795-4C6D-99D9-2E652C1A9F7B.jpeg 02123C5A-73E5-45AF-8D0B-1A04469AE185.jpeg

You couldn't have picked two nicer cars to hang around with.

Good story Brian. Had my garage door open one day and I am banging around inside with the compressor running and a guy walks up and says do you mind if I come in. I said no I don't mind. He steps into the garage and looks around and sees my 31 Av8 and says I knew some serious **** was happening in here! Turns out he lives a street over. Rides his bike down my street some days. Turns out he is an ex AA fuel altered, dragster, and funny car driver! Was telling me stories about his cars how fast he's been and I am like sure sure... we all were fast when we were young. Long story short I stopped by his place and he WAS! Had a national record in the quarter mile at one point. Ran a fuel altered named Pure Heaven with his father and grandfather. Pics of his rail and funny cars. Had a lot of info actually. I Was like ah, he really was fast. Went to his hot rod birthday party shortly afterward. Good guy. Currently building a 1937 Chevy pickup with a 350. and was looking for tips.

We live in Florida half the year. The Museum is the Sarasota Cl***ic Car Museum. I saw no reason to change my address on this page.

Great story. New car friends. Can't be beat. Some sweet rides too, including your Roadster.

I don't know about the cars and coffees there but here a lot of the guys hit sometime between 7 and 9 and five minutes after 9 the lot is empty and ready for the fabric and drug store customers who go to the stores there. Depending on the weather and what else is going on some stay for a quick walk around and talk to the other folks and some are there at 06:30 and stay until 9. Lately during rod trot season it is the spot to meet up and travel to out of town events after the cars and coffee.

It's great to find someone with a nifty hot rod to hang out with though.

  14. Breakfast! It's not just for breakfast anymore!

I like those (what I call) earthy, colonial paint colors of the two. The black doesn't contrast or conflict, either.
.......But a whole car show of nothing but those earthy, colonial tones is as heavy as two breakfasts, no doubt. :p

I'd tired of the same ol' gang at my cars and coffee event, so I saw another event that was just a few miles away. Drove over and parked my 54 Plymouth and swiftly checked all the 50 or so rides -- all 65 or more years newer than mine -- most guys still making payments. I'll read the fine print next time.

I found out why the event didn't happen. Cold. It was 60 degrees. These old car guys here are something. Last week I talked to a guy who was looking at my roadster at the Cars and Coffee deal at UTC, he told him he had a nice '32 coupe and lives less than 2 miles from the show. "I don't want to spend all day cleaning it." True, our car was dirty from driving it on wet streets, but that doesn't deter me from driving it. Nor does 60 degree weather. That's roadster weather anywhere.

I only drive my old car when the temperature is 66° and 77° IF the sun is shining. (I have no heater nor air conditioner.)

(I guess I better get off my *** and fix those items...)

I don’t want to spend all day cleaning my car either…so I don’t. :D But, that doesn’t keep me from driving as much as possible. Glad to see you setting an example Brian. :)

As time goes on Brian - it's the simple things.

As I get older I find myself not entering staged events with awards, trophies ( those days are long gone).
Driving to and from and in between is the enjoyment.
I park off a side street so I can come and go.

I enjoy informal get togethers ( maybe a cruise night or two here and there).
Besides the old cars, old trucks, it's the people and friends that make memories.

Even better yet a garage gathering...... :) sitting around with a beverage and some decent older 50's-60's-70's - even some early 80's playing on the radio and shooting the breeze exchanging memories of the memories I guess you can say.
