I was browsing for '32 chevy pics and came across these old pictures from the Orange, California Public Library... Wrong year and make of car, but I thought they were neat and worth sharing nonetheless... First one was captioned- "Wayne Davis standing by the side of his 1932 Chevy hot rod, parked in front of Davis family home at 513 North Gl***ell Street in Orange, California, March 6, 1948"- next one captioned- "Wayne Davis' 1932 Chevy hot rod parked in front of the Davis family home at 513 North Gl***ell Street in Orange, California, January, 1950. The house to the north of the Davis home is also visible. The 1949-50 city directory lists J.A. Wilson at 505 North Gl***ell Street. Photograph from the estate of Wayne Davis."- last one- "Wayne Davis' 1932 Chevy hot rod parked on the 500 block of North Gl***ell Street in Orange, California, January, 1950. Photograph from the estate of Wayne Davis."
I knew someone would be a smart***... You can see a '32 chevy sedan in the last pic... someone at the library probably mixed up the info.
And I thought it was only the new rockerbilly guys who had cuffs that tall. I guess they are kinda retro after all.
is that thing hanging down the pitman arm and drag link? that dosn't look very safe. wonder how it steered like that? very cool pics.
Thanx 4 sharing! I dig shots like that, & I drive down Gl***ell when I go down to the Model A picnic there @ the park in a Model A ch***ied 27 beater RPU. glad to know that I'm staying with the tradition of street..
Very nice. Always cool with vintage pics. Guess he borrowed the cap from his elder brother. Shades rescuing him from total darkness....sure is a low-slung fit on that "roadster-hat"
Almost, but not quite race ready I guess. The cap again....... I bet a cap with such a loose fit has a tag inside saying "For display purpose only" Too unsafe if it should slip over the goggles. Anyways it should be turned 180 degrees regarding wind.....or maybe he races with the windshiled on. A lot of old lakes pics show these "Butcher /meat store caps" If I remember correctly, Albert Drakes or any of the other books, mentioned these to be more or less bought for one off use when going to the dusty dry lakes. Mabe he's heading there that afternoon. Ryan should have some made with a small HAMB logo on the back. We would all look "the ****" .... "Gangsta" Paul
I wish I had those headlights. Question: what is hanging down about the middle of the car? Nice pics...do you find this kind of stuff at estate sales or something? Edit: looks like he had WWW in the first pic and raised letter Generals in the second.
Best picture in H.A.M.B. I liked it so much I swiped it for my screen saver........... and my avatar.
I drove by that address this morning. The street is a little wider now, but those houses and the corner market in the back ground of the last picture are all still there. How cool is that. Here is Socal, if it is too old and someone deems it not profitable, they demo it and build something that will maximize the real estate. That area is all protected by the city. All modifications must me aproved by the historical preservation society. http://maps.yahoo.com/index.php?ard...om=20&q1=513%20n.%20gl***ell%2C%20orange%20ca. .
I wonder if Wayne ever experienced a phenomena known as BUMPSTEER. He sure was a fashion leader with the too tall cuffs, the shades and the soft crash helmet splayed across the old noggin.
