    Good evening Everyone!

I wanted to hop on here and ask for a bit of advice. To start off, I have a 1940 Ford Tudor Sedan, rebuilt 59AB, punched out 0.125" from 221ci to 239ci, 8BA crank, rods, and pistons, stock heads, very mild cam, stock 59AB helmet distributor and stock mechanical fuel pump. I have (2) Holley 94's sitting on top of an offenhauser 2x2 intake. Connecting the two I have a Charlie Price Vintage Speed progressive linkage kit. Both carburetors have been rebuilt with the gaskets provided in the kit, Holley 51 jets, the front has a #5 power valve and the rear has the power valve blocked off, and no choke plate (Came in the kit).

The issue that I am having is that the car runs fantastic off idle and at wide open throttle but I can not make it idle smooth, whereas before when running a single 94 it idled smooth as glass. I have checked for leaks at the power valve and plug and both are staying dry, I currently have the idle speed screw turned all the way in and the idle mixture screws turned all the way in and the car still sounds like it is on choke. I have also looked down the throat of both carbs while running and it does not look like fuel is dripping off of the nozzles or either carb.

If anyone can give me a path forward on things to check or maybe something that I am obviously doing wrong? I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me, I am very close to putting the single carb intake back on and being happy with being slow hahaha.

    Thank you,
    Frank Calabrese

The stock power valve in these is a 7in-Hg one.

When running multiples, you need to divide that number by the number of carburetors.

You have 2. Each should have a 3.5in-Hg power valve.

  4. No matter what value you have for your power valves, they should not be passing fuel at idle. If you have completely shut the throttle valves and completely shut the idle mixture screws it should not run...unless it is getting fuel from somewhere else. The likely culprit would be a leaking power valve but you say you have checked that. When I get stumped like this, I remove one of the carburetors and block it off then tune with just the one carb. Then I switch and tune the other. Check your fuel inlet needle valve for leaks as well.
