I am making some progress on my hot rod project and need a little help on brakes. I am running a '32 Ford frame (reproduction) with '37 Ford axles and I think '48 Ford truck brakes. The problem I have is that the wheel cylinder inlet for the brake hose is angled downward where I would not be able to thread a hose in there without grinding off part of the spindle for clearance. Is there a wheel cylinder that would have a straight in inlet and bolt up directly to the space provided to allow the clearance to thread in a brake hose? What year Ford wheel cylinders might work? Part # maybe? Any help appreciated. Thank you!
Does this look better ? https://www.macsautoparts.com/1948-...eel-cylinder-right-or-left-f3-48-20312-1.html
On my F1 F100 brakes on early 37 to 41 spindles I use wheel cylinders from Raybestos WC9090 (left) and WC9091(Right) they seem to have less angle than some of the store brand ones. But no matter what, you will have to grind on the spindle UNTIL the hose clears. no way around it and has been done for years to use F1 and F100 brakes on the early spindles. Also if you are wanting to use 1/4 brake lines like a 39 to 48 car would have used originally, a rear brake hose from a 54 ford p*** car, will thread into these wheel cylinders, is plenty long enough and has a flare fitting on the other side that will fit into a 39 to 48 p*** car brake hose bracket and is for a 1/4 inch line with inverted flare fitting on the other side. Look for RAYBESTOS BH36091 for that 54 ford rear brake hose.
Thanks gents! Looks like the straight inlet will help some and as Nailhead indicates looks like I will have to grind on the spindle anyway.
