Had a conversation with MonsterFlake at the HAMB drags about this sorta thing. Car Craft Nats at Carbondale Il. Pro Street cars. TPI cars. Party. TITS
Then Steve mentioned the bright pink and green wiper blades and graphics. I suppose we will see NOS double blade hot pink or green wiper blades on ebay in a few years.

  12. I was in high school in the 80s. I hated the rods from that era and still do. In fact, it turned me off so much I found other interests in life-which is not all bad. But I seriously doubt I'll ever get into 80s rods in my life. Now the music? Different story:eek:

In 84 I was 7. My mom drove a windowless short wheel base Ford van. It was brown with orange shag carpet and a queen size bed inside. My dad put the carpet in and built the bed. And I was trying to convince my parents how bad I needed a BMX bike. I got a yard sale junker instead.

  14. in 84 i was 18 driving a 73 gran torino, primer grey with a white starsky and hutch stripe. 351w, holly, thorley, crane, c-6, fenton-et slots and fat stones. tough assed old car. when i wasnt raising hell in it i was raising hell in my girlfriends 84 escort, best summer of my single life.just like an old beach boys song, well all but the escort. surfing, motor bikes, girls, fast cars and late nights i would love to do it again. and build another torino just like it if i could, but they are all gone around here thanks to the dirt track guys and the scrap yard. just thinking bout it makes me smile. damn, we had fun.

I was thinking the same thing not too long ago. I for one thought the 80's kicked ass. 1984 was when Chevy finally released a nice Corvette, after all those ugly 74 -82 models. You could still buy old cars at a decent price, bought my first car, a 70 Mach 1 for 200.00, gas was under a buck, and the only thing I really had to worry about was getting caught staying home from school to put the heavens on. (I hope my kids don't see that part)
I had just started dating my first wife, and in 84 she was still someone I liked. Her dad painted cars in the garage as a side job, and her uncle supplied me with weed. Life was good. LOL

I was 34 and I had just finished my not so traditional 48 chopped custom.

Sorry about the bad pic. It was taken in the Salt Lake I.S.C.A. cars show after driving a snow storm from Idaho. I had to join I.S.C.A. at the show.

There was so much ice packed under the car they made me take it back outside and hose the underside and wait till it stopped peeing on the floor.
My first indoor car show. The car was class champ for the year and was never trailered to any shows.

Lurker Mick might remember when the pic was taken.

I hear what your saying Root, and can totally understand it. A yerning to return to somthing in our lives, we now look back on as a part of a time when it all seemed to be..... well...... right.

In 84... hmmm lets see I was 22. I had just sold my 56 Fairlane / 312, and was driving a 56 Chevy P/U with a 350 and a rock crusher. 388 gears. Drove the silly thing to home to Odessa from Tech and then back on Sunday night. Got close to 100 miles per tank of gas! But it would turn high 13s all day long.

this may sound werid. Would I build another? No.... thats done for me. Time to move on.

In '84 I was nine and my main ride was a Big Wheel ®.

  22. I really hope the 80's are not..........I was in 11th grade in 84. Yep muscle cars were cheap. Detroit wasnt making anything new worth a crap. I had 3 jobs and Lettered in Football that year. I was made fun of in school for my car. It was probably one of the nicer cars but because of what it was, the jokes never stopped.....My dad was a car guy so he did not want his son to have anything that remotly resembled a performance car.....Funny thing is at the class reunion, I am the biggest gear head, and I still have that first car....Laugh all you want, I have heard them all!

1984 I was in HB, Ca and a freshman in high school. I had 2 wheels, but some guys had some cooler stuff. One guy had a bright yellow 40 tudor sedan another a 340 duster. My buddy had a new '85 monte ss, damn near died many a friday night after football games that year. Guy drove like a freakin idiot, but I was dumb what did I know.

  25. This is a WAY better waste of bandwidth than T.V. shows or rusty fiberglass cars. Cant' wait till I get to work tomorrow to read it all, I grew up in the 70s and 80s too.

    In '84 I was 9.

My first car was a '79 Cougar. It was considered "old" when I got it. I still own my 2nd car...another '79 Cougar.

I got in to "old" cars when I could convince the parentals that I knew what I was doing. The SS Chevelle was the turning point. They couldn't believe I could crank out a paint job that looked that good from their garage when they were out of town :)

Customs were out of the question, with no welder and a compressor that could barely keep up. Oh, and I had to make sure my Mom could park on her side of the garage when I was "done" for the night. ;) Good 'ol days...

I was almost 40 in 84.. I still have a new truck I bought in 78 and another in 85 also a HD in 85.all are still in use .Shit I even have a set of tires I bought in 1983 size.. H70 15.. The year 1984 That is still all new stuff to me. In 84 My hotrods were 34 ford, a 32 studebaker, and a 54 GMC ramp truck with a 454, 78 dodge little red express, 2 circle track cars and 2 harleys, Dam I pissed away a lot of money but I had fun..Bobby..

  29. I was buying, selling and at times, driving every type of muscle car the big three ever put out. I had a muscle car used car lot, and I "toted" my own notes. I learned the difference between "car guys" and "wanna be car guys". Car guys made their payments. Wanna-be's saw my repo lady more than they saw their own. Can't remember how many times I was cussed out because the customer didn't make enough money to afford the car he wanted. Naturally, it was my fault. I was way too high priced.
It's really hard for me to get misty-eyed over any factory muscle. Probably because I either fixed, or paid to have fixed, every damn one of them. Now days I build what I want, how I want, and the best part is, I don't sell any of them.

  30. I had already owned the makings of my T tub for 4 years, another 20 and I would have it on the road. I did however just finish a frame up rebuild on my 55 chev in it's street machine incarnation. I redid it again frome the frame up in black a few years later lowered, mild custom with wire wheels. This was my last of 8 55-6 chevs I owned. Pat.
