Hot Rods What is your "go to" wheel for a street brawler?

Since I am laid up, all I can do is search the old web and pipe dream.

I have been talking to my buddy @Dan Hay about the perfect wheel for a mid 60's street brawler. I have it narrowed down to my top 3.

1.The first one is the chrome reverse wheel
2. US Mag or Ansen Aluminum slot
3. Halibrand Sprint

i like cragars, torque thrust d's and slots, but for a street brawler i like stock steel on front and widened stock steels on rear. trying to decide if i'm going to widen mine or have them done, can't see well enough to weld them right now. after i get the cataracts removed it will be a different story.

I do like the steel slots. I don't see them around here ,very often.

For me, it depends on the car. Aluminum slots work good, as do 5 spoke Torque Thrusts. Some cars look good with mixed styles, chrome reverse fronts with slots or spokes on back. Have seen some I like the reverse of that, with a 5 spoke or slot up front with a widened white steel wheel in rear. Best bet is take a side pic and try different styles to get the look you want.

My go to would be aluminum slots but those skinnies are stupid money anymore. Next would be steel wheels (but heavy) or Torq Thrust D’s. I have honestly been thinking through this some recently to lose the 90’s off that car I bought back…

 

A street brawler's wheels should be mis-matched front/rear.
-steelies/5-spokes
-slots/steelies
-5-spokes/slots
-Cragars/steelies
Chromies/ 5-spokes
Etc....

I've had them in my cart for a year trying to decide.

 

I would rather have a 4” wide wheel but those could work…

 

Steel wheels weigh a ton...but so do Cragars, etc.

I had some of the new Us mags on a couple other cars, they work ok, they're kind of modern looking if you are into the details...they're all polished, not just a plain machined finish like the old days. And they use tapered lug nuts now, instead of shank.

 

I also consider Cragar Super Tricks but those are a little new for here too since they didn’t come out until 1970 from what I think I found.

When you say slots are you talking about wheels or Las Vegas? Hehe.

 

I'm pretty low key, I like painted steelies on everything. I've only had other on 2 cars, my first car had Centerlines and my Elco has Moon discs.

 

How did they balance? Pretty true or did you need as lot of weight?
