AN (Army/Navy) fittings and braided steel lines were available in surplus stores in SoCal in the early fifties.
I was thinking that in my younger days I had seen braided hoses on a few old hot rods in the 60's collection of old hot rod mags I had. I knew they were around long before the 80's street rods, they either were too expensive or lack of availability to make them too popular before that is what I always figured.
Rodders Journal issue 83 did an article about a clone that was as nice as the original. I've been around hot rods for a long time and the picture in the article of that Buick nailhead is the most beautiful engine I have ever seen.
As much publication as this vehicle earned, I am surprise that one of the many fibergl*** vendors did not make a "copy to sell" body out of fibergl*** for the general hot rod public.
GM had an externally regulated Alt in '63 or '64. It was a common upgrade. Braided lines and AN fittings were common on race cars and show cars in the '50s and '60s. The Uncertain T was a show car. In order to score points it would have had as much chrome as possible and all the latest greatest parts to score show points. it was a neat car my wife's favorite since we were kids. To date she wants to own a phone booth and if it was bent over like that she would like it even more.
Hang on to your hat. Big news will be coming out early in 2024 regarding the Uncertain T. It will shock the car collector world. It disappeared over 40 years ago. No known living person has seen it since; it was lost to antiquity. A variety of treasure hunters have been searching for it, not unlike the "Raiders of the Lost Ark", but all attempts to find out what happened to it have failed. Similar to the legend of Bigfoot, reported sightings have been reported from all over the world. Most of these were people seeing a replica. The fate of the T was a total mystery ever since; until now. The truth of the mystery will be shared to the world, and hundreds of myths will be shattered. It will be the biggest collector car story of the century. Fans of the Uncertain T are in for the treat of a lifetime. Stay tuned!
