IF you are going to keep the exhaust the way it is now...fill in the firewall "divots"...they actually detract from the chromed exhaust...if smooth, the firewall will simply "disappear"...

If you insist on hood sides, keep the exhaust and build the "sides" around them...

I do like the peak in the hood...but then that presents a problem with how to open the hood...and that would take some major modification to eliminate each piece...lotsa welding...

Personally...I don't think the stock '39 grille can be improved on...

Blacksix & 40dude speak the truth (IMO  ). Any changes here seem like they are done only for the sake of change, not for improvement.

i understand what youre saying slide. Bottom line is the grill has to be made. The current grille in there is hacked. Its not a factory one either. I've got a nice stock one but it doesn't fit in there. the hood has been shortened and the grille was leaned back. In order to make the factory one I have fit, its a lot more work than building a new one (trust me). I'm going to think about this for a little bit...meditate on it....if this thing is going to get the shiny paint treatment, the grille's gotta be nice.

Here is what I came up with I used a picture of a 36 ford grill. I also changed the colors up a bit, just for fun!

If it was me and i had a 39 Chev, I wouldn't try to make it like a 36 ford, so no vertical bars. In plan view, the shape of the hood is pretty pointy, so all the vertical bars would need to be heavilly staggered. Front on that may look ok, but side on all you'd see would be solid bars - unless the grille was cut from sheet and bent around but that would look ****. Horizintal bars would work much better to sweep around the hood shape.

You could go with a Stude Dictator look and close the side around the grille a bit.

Don't want to be a pain, but I can't help feeling the headlights take away fron the grille, they're a bit m***ive. Maybe it's the rings?

I like 1 shot slinger's idea with the 36 grille. I also vote for keeping the exhaust as is... very unique.

i dig low cabs with hood sides , ditch the exhaust and make up some rad hood sides, take a look at the sweeping louvers on the foster 36 to get an idea of what im talking about.

you obviously want a tail drager custom, those pipes arent tail drager custom, there primer hotrod/mild custom in between car. dont get me wrong they rock and look good.

but in the dirrection your going i say ditch them, sure its changing the look of the car and it wont be "that car" anymore, but **** em its your car.

make it nice and it wont "just disapear into the crowd"

It is bit too square, isn't it. I owned pair of those ´49 Plymouth bumpers some time ago and they were too square to my ´47 Ford club coupe too.

    Hey Thomas,
Deep down inside you really want a '37 don't you??? haha:D

I'm still up in the air on my grill. I've looked at a bunch of designs for horizontal bars, but I keep coming back to something close to the stock '37.

Any way you cut it, your car kicks ***!!!

Wow, you photoshop guys are good, Speedy, your car is really nice, I dig what LOW CAB did, it looks cl***y. That green that 'Slinger' came up with Screams at you, love it. I'm sorry but I have to agree about the headlights and the bumper, maybe some '37 Ford's and a '40 Desoto/Dodge front bumper without guards? I like the pipes, Kinda reminds me of our boy 'Richie's blue '36 Ford.

The grille is going to be horizontal and have the same shape as the stock 39. We're starting the tear down on the car now for paint. I'm open on the bumper ideas also...but I like my plymouths for now, unless someone wants to donate some better ones
