I BELIEVE I HAVE THE 1957 FUEL INJECTION CORVETTE THAT WAS OWNED BY ERNEST GRIMM AND WAS CLOCKED AT 99 MPH QUARTER. HE WON HIS CLASS! INQUIRY: MY 1957 CORVETTE NHRA WINNER: THIS WAS VERIFIED BY THE SECOND OWNER WHILE TAKING THE LICENSE NUMBER OFF THE NHRA FILMS REEL SENT TO HIS CAR CLUB. HE WAS LISTED AS THE WINNER. HOWEVER, I WOULD SURLY LIKE TO BE ABLE TO CONFIRM THE CARS SERIAL NUMBER. I SPOKE TO MR GRIMM BACK IN 1976 AND HE SAID THE COLOR OF THE VETTE WAS RED AND I AGREED. THEN, HE SAID "WAIT IT WAS BLACK" I EXPLAINED, I STRIPPED THE CAR AND IT WAS RED FIRST, THEN BLACK. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I AM 78 AND MY GUESS WOULD BE THAT HE HAS PASSED OR EXCEPTIONALLY OLD. I HVE HOT ROD MAGAZINE WITH HIS NAME AS THE WINNER ALSO, BUT NO SERIAL NUMBER OR LICENSE PLATE NUMBER. THANKS
I know the Ernie Grimm car ran at Tulsa in 1957. I thought it was black with red cove, but obviously it was many years ago, and my memory is getting full of holes.
Found this photo in Petersen Digital Archives from 1957 NHRA Nationals in Oklahoma City. Program lists Ernest W. Grimm Jr. as Entry #133.
Again, my car was stripped for repaint by my best friend who owned the body shop. The was originally red with beige coves, and then it was repainted black. I would love to get the license number and/or the serial number to confirm the info. The 2nd owner did confirm the license number on a car club NHRA reel to reel club meeting as previously stated above. But, I would love to have a picture of the plates? By the way, the picture had traction bars and so does mine. I do feel the 2nd owner has confirmed the find.
