These manifolds aren't worth much anymore to sell so thought I would build a high revving 301-302 SBC around it. What's the best old school cabs to use? Yes, I am aware that a modern single 4 and manifold will produce more power/torque, boring! Thanks! IMG_4512.JPG IMG_4513.JPG

Funny that you should post this as I was talking to blokes at the River City run on the weekend and I pointed out that nobody here in Australia runs dual fours on their hot rods with the exception of one guy who has a beautiful 32 Tudor with a dual four 425 Buick. Engine is all original though just as it came out of the Riviera and is quite a rare one here in Oz in a sea of imported SBC crate engines. That car is a stunner and got top car at the Hot Rod Nationals.

I dual quads on my early Olds powered roadster. If you are looking for the late 50's to mid 60's look find a couple of Carter 3720 or 3721 AFB'S they will bolt right on. Holley's will not fit this manifold as they are too long to fit end to end. Edelbrocks will work but they are not near as good a carb as the genuine Carters are.

I sure like the look of 2x4s. This is going on a Buick nailhead 322.

I've got a 331 SBC that the plan is an Edelbrock C-26 with a couple of Edelbrocks on top of.

  11. I have been real tempted to buy a complete 2x4 setup that is on my local marketplace for a while now at what seems like a good price even though I know I could have something run better with a single four. But, they sure look cool...

If you have deep pockets a pair of original Rochester WCFBs is about as old school, on topic, and good performing as you will get.

A school chum who worked after school, managed a deal on a'61 Plymouth
One day he led me to his car, lifted the hood to display 2 AFBs.
he said, as I gawked "Don't tell my mother".
A year or two later I saw him on the street in a '55 Chevy
As he opened the hood. He said "Don't tell my mother" :D

Nothing like the feel and sound of that second carburetor opening up.

Bought this early cast iron OEM for my RB440 just to have the option.

I'm not sure the " more power , torque " thing is true , there have been test over recent years showing different conclusions , whatever ...

Mocking this up for my 327 (331). Going with modified Eddy 500’s because I’m familiar with them.

I need a set of the small footprint WCFB or Rochesters for my Caddy. The problem is they are the same carbs as the early Vette and those guys drive the prices up on everything. Last resort is the New Edelbrock AVS2 carbs.

  18. I’d be looking for a couple Carter 9400’s

    400 CFM each

I believe there is an old thread about this

I always thought 2x4 was sexy. My first 2 carbs,I worked at getting was Thunderbird 2x4,on my 57 Bird powered 28A got running in 1959. I trashed the Ford teapots,an got a pair of used carbs off a Cady El.> those worked great.
After 2 years,I got offered, what I thought at the time was surper $ for the 2x4 intake n carbs,so sold it,{ I should of never done that !:(} Then added a 4 bbl for a time. After a few years,I made my own intake with 4x2.< I did try buying another 2x4 set up,by then, they all had turn to Gold,,, I'm happy with my 4x2s :D 001 (4).JPG

  21. I like the Carter AFB 4331 or 4331s they came on 67 buicks with the 340 in them and are ususally pretty cheap when you find them cause no one wants them. they have smaller butterflys than most and are nice and resposive in a dual four barrel set up. im looking for one more right now to put two fours on my 39 with a 10.0 to 1 283 and 097 cam.

  24. Jeez, I didn't know that I was so weird, all 4 of my old cars have 2x4 setups !
I also have a few spare setups, just incase LOL

This is how your intake will look with a pair of Carters, like was mentioned Holleys will not fit.

    Sexy

  25. Even though this wreaks of phony, we all know that it's real easy to over carb an engine. If you block off the back 2 barrels , that will make life simpler for most.

  29. Love dual fours, scored this complete set up at a swap meet for a steal a month ago[IMG]

have another set in the background that I am still trying to put together correctly.

Then have dual quads on my 33. Running old Edelbrock's from the late 80s and been a really good set.
