Just got the car home from the old time Hemi guy. It has as been a long trip to get all the mechanicals done but here it is. Sorry about the pictures but it is raining. Hope to start fitting the windows and interior soon.
Nice score! How much is the roof chopped, and what Hemi do you have? We appear to have similar taste. Lots in common between our '37 and your '39.
I verified through Hot Heads it is a 55 or 56 truck 354. It is all new and has just been fired. I had it running outside the garage today and it is cool. I do not know how much it is chopped but nota lot. The 3 5 4 is all new and I am going to have to learn it's finickiness. Haha
I see your car had the round headlight conversion, do you still have both conversion headlights, or are you thinking about going back to the square lights? I had a 39 Dodge business coupe as well. My car still had both the gl*** lenses for the square lights, but I updated the insides. I may still have a square light bucket and maybe 1 headlight door, and a few odd parts here.
Right here, with the PROJECTS already on the heading, you can just keep adding on this thread. Anyone searching for 1939 Plymouth, this will come up.
Here in Oztralia in 1939 we had a choice of either a 3 window or 5 window Dodge & Plymouth Coupe body, both made by T.J.Richards the Oz ***emblers who by that stage were owned by Chrysler.....the 3 window style is by far the most common and that roof was also used on the Mopar Coupe Utes for 1939...........andyd
Is the firewall color a preview of what is to come for the rest of the exterior, or a remnant of what once was? Hopefully the former. Please update when you can, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy seeing your progress.
Looking good. Picked mine up in 2019. Have a 392 hemi that I am working on now. Currently running a 383 and 700r. Just fixed the body work and paint in October.
Please describe what was done to get the drivetrain in there, too. There is usually a thread each year asking how to swap in a V8 into a vintage mopar that had a flathead 6 stock. The SBM and SBC fit fairly well, but the BBs and Hemis require more room. I'd like to see what you did to get that big boy in and still have steering.
