Now that I will be moving the engine to behind the cab I have a huge void under the cab. Thought about moving the gas tank to under the cab. Great idea, good idea, terrible idea, what do you think, let me know. Dave

You could put it there. But you would be pretty much sitting on it! About like a Model A with it in your lap. But then the 05/06 Ford GT has the tank in the middle under the tunnel, (its rear engine). Might work out well as there is enough truck around you if you were to get in an accident.

Yep it’s under there. For my set up it was the best spot, and one of the safest. I think. E8CD616D-A7F4-414E-A080-3F23ED54CCEB.jpeg IMG_2138.jpeg

That is exactly what I did with mine.

  6. Here's the way I look at fuel tank location; If you get hit hard enough to rupture the tank, will the impact kill you anyway. We don't have friendly crush zones and air bags! I don't want to be roasted alive, but if dead, it doesn't matter much. (I'm probably going to hell anyway)
What is around the tank is as important as where it is located. Remember the infamous Pinto! The fuel tank wasn't the problem, but in a rear end crash the tank got shoved forward into a shock bracket on the rear axle that ripped the tank open. Ford fixed the problem by putting a piece of plastic in the crucial spot.
Mine will be up in the bed just behind the engine, no room under the cab, because of other stuff and a clear air flow path to the radiator which is behind the seating area.

I have been pondering the same question. I look at all of the big rigs out there with their big round aluminum tanks hanging on the outside of the frame rails and think, if it’s my time and someone t bones me hard enough to crush the frame and the tank under the cab, maybe it’s my time to depart this wacked out planet.
