Need some advice, getting ready to install the hood on my '40 truck and can't decide if the hinges should be mounted on the cowl first and then the hood dropped down or if the hinges should be installed on the hood brace and then mounted to the cowl. I don't have the fenders installed yet. It looks like it would be a real pain to try to get the 1/4" bolts into the hood and safety wired like the factory did it. Wonder what others did.

When i installed the hood on my 47 pickup [same cab] i mounted the hinges to the hood first. It was a lot easier that way.

Mount the hinges on the hood first. Use the correct hardware and wire them. Then spread the hood slightly and install one side then the other. I put rubber vacuum caps over the studs to protect the paint. Use toothed washers inside to make sure they don't move around.

I bought washers like this off ebay for my 41, they are 53 F100 stuff that @Pist-n-Broke turned me onto.
