My '54 Tudor had a 2" drop in the front which I got rid of by installing a pair of OEM coil springs. ( I am restoring the car back to original). The springs that I removed have no markings on them so I don't know what they came out of. If anyone wants them I will sell them cheap. Send me a PM if interested.

I have Aerostars with Versailles spindles on my '56. No issues or complaints whatsoever.

  4. Interesting, I hadn't heard about that option before. Thanks!

  5. The cut stock coils on the blue 56 have settled a bit, but I'm pleased so far it hasn't dropped more. It rides a bit choppy, but then again, it's as expected. I have lots of good ideas to sort through now!

  6. Your wagon looks good, perfect stance!

  7. Very cool, that sits perfect! Looks good!

I used 6 cylinder springs to lower the front of our Ranch Wagon and Fatman dropped spindles.

  10. That looks just right!

  11. Interesting! I know where a ch***is is from a 6cyl 56 2-door, and I had never thought about the possibility of the springs before!

I hesitate to post in these threads because my setup is too much for most. I have a 302 with AOD engine with Granada spindles (reamed just enough for the castle nut - most drop), Aerostar springs and KYB shocks. I had to remove the bump stops but have never hit any bump hard enough to get bump steer. It is about as low as you can go statically without switching to bags. You do have to drive slowly over speed bumps and be careful backing up (tires only rub backing up for some reason). My daily driver is also lowered so I'm use to negotiating parking lots to avoid speed bumps and pot holes so the setup on my 55 isn't an issue for me. Looking forward to seeing which way you go. Good luck!

Your photo really shows the limit for a user car. Back in the 60’s is exactly what driving style we had to do with our cars. “Low and slow” was not just a phrase but how we proceed if we didn’t know the streets. Even today those of us with lower than stock watch intersections we don’t know and also highways before and after overp***es. Great advice and nice 2dr…

My mercury is Aerostar springs and 3” blocks in the back. Rides good to me.

I had this 55 for some reason it sat lower in the front but it was also Aerostar springs and in the rear 3” blocks with a few leafs removed. This 55 was really low and would pull up the Rubber speed bumps on the road.

  18. Interesting. The blue 56 we have has the cut coils in front and I am asked so many times how many inches the rear has been lowered. The funny part is that the springs out back are so sagged that they automatically lowered it more than a few inches!

  19. Man that looks so cool, very nice! Good stance and all!
