What did you contact them about? These events sell out and get a wait list very quickly.

Sick week is very popular as it's the only winter drag and drive. There are over 20 drag and drive events across the continent each year now, it has grown to be a very popular segment.

    over 30, you mean?

Would be fun to go to Sick Week, but it's the wrong time of year...I'm busy with the high school robotics team.

44 cars out of Sick Week now. Wow. Matt Donovan is one of them, that's too bad. Traveled with him in 2019 on Drag Week, that was fun

These events look like a lot of fun. Watched VGG’s YT vid yesterday. Wish I could catch them in person.

some guys from Alberta drive down there in their cars and race, so yeah, you probably could watch them in person if you really wanted to. Or participate, it's way more fun.

I made two passes yesterday, at Gainesville. Spun the tires on both passes. The best one was a 10.60 something, but I turned it in anyway because the lanes were closed for my run group and I didn't want to wait three more hours for the all run session.
We are at South Georgia Motorsports Park now, the car is all ready to race. Just waiting for our run group to be called to the lanes. Hoping for a really good pass today. I re-jetted call 16 main Jets to hopefully take advantage of the really good air here.

Unfortunately, sick week 2024 ended a day early for me today. I made some changes on the car that I was very confident were going to improve it, maybe even break into the nines. I was two cars from the burnout box and signaled to move forward. When I started the car, I noticed that there was zero oil pressure. We had to push it back and I pulled the distributor and verified that the oil pump drive shaft had broken off. I'm sure a piece of debris got into the oil pump and jammed it. So I got a ride with some nice people back to Orlando and tomorrow We are going to go back to Georgia and load up the car.
All in all I have no regret. I did everything I could do to get there, and then to stay in. When something beyond my control happens like this, well there's always next time!

Yes, I submitted an "interest" Form that they supplied months back when I first heard about the Slick 66. All I received back since then was merchandise ads.> Until now I read you guys talking about it. Went to the site, and see that it is further planned but still, no sign up yet.
All in all, not sure I should try to make the whole deal as I have almost zero experience. But I like the idea of touring with my old car at least and seeing the action. And it is in my neck of the woods. I know the road already and most of the strips.

Sorry to hear of your problem as I have enjoyed following along on your adventures and to have your son with just makes it that much more of a family experience. I guess as they say "That's racing"

The cool thing about some of the Sick events is Sick Ward, where you register and get perks but just follow along without the racing.

As a newbie you should totally do it if you want to. The vast majority of the cars at these events are the slower cars with less experienced drivers. I haven't done one yet, but they're supposed to be a great time.

I know Death Week last year took a while to come to fruition, so maybe that event is the same?

Cornfield, it is a t56 Magnum, six speed manual. 5th and 6th are overdrive. It's a great transmission for this sort of thing.

since I finished Death Week last year, I'm supposed to get early sign up privilege for Sick 66 this year. So I'll probably let folks know when they are signing people up for it.

  22. Bummer you broke. I usualy look foward to your reports from the road. Hopefully there is no real damage beyond the oil pump and drive shaft.

Tom Bailey mentioned in one of his videos that Sick66 registration would be March 2, so watch your email if you sent in an expression of interest. I am hoping to get in as well. It also might help if you follow the Tom Bailey YouTube channel as he often talks about the events and registration in his videos.

Have been following along, sorry to hear of the issue. Good thing you found it when you did rather than at full noise.
I drove 10 1/2 hours to race a couple of years back. Drove off the trailer, did the first run and noticed no oil pressure when driving back along the return road. Checked a couple of things but because it was a recent rebuild I decided to put it back on the trailer and drive 10 1/2 hours back home. Pulled the sump off and found the oil pickup line fitting was loose. I built it, my blunder. Could've fixed it at the track but wasn't thinking clearly.

I’ve been following along in YouTube and a number of people have said that because the tracks are prepared for radials they are struggling with big tyres, why is that?

  30. A small radial tire likes to dead hook. A big bias ply slick likes to slip a little (wheel speed) or it will tire shake and spin.
