Power motor for the back glass on my 62 Bel air station wagon will roll down but not up. Pulled it out and bench tested it. Looking for a new motor or someone to rebuild mine. Haven't been able to find anyone who has a replacement. Plenty of power window motors that are similar but they are 2 wire and mine is 3 wire. No part numbers are on the motor at all. Any help is appreciated.

I had a '63 wagon. The motor wasn't working, so I took it to a local electric motor service. They took it apart & cleaned it up, but said it looked pretty good for its age. I had to run an extra ground (soldered it to the case) to get it to work well. There is also a safety switch that doesn't allow you to use the window when the gate is open. I'd check that too. Mine was non-functional & I by-passed it (not recommended). It's so you don't raise the window & then slam the tailgate. Resulting in shattered glass.

the switch didn't work at first but is now making contact for ground. Still need to have the motor replaced or fixed if I can find a replacement.

Before you replace it, take the transmission apart, clean all the old, congealed grease out and lube it with red wheel bearing grease. I've fixed a bunch of these 60's era window motors this way, have never found one that wouldn't work when cleaned.

  5. It’s amazing to see the prongs still intact and only slightly corroded. I’ve pulled my share of non working window motors to find the prongs rusted off.

There is a spring in the mechanism to help the window go up? If there is, be sure that is not broken or full of rust/dirt.

If the motor works in one direction, it should work in the other direction. It is a DC motor that reverses when the polarity of the 12 volt source is reversed. You can easily test the motor with a battery at the two prongs that feed the motor. If it works in both directions when tested, I would next look at the reversing switch. Unless of course my assumption on the operation is all wrong!
