That is a Volkswagen bus damper. A Fiero also works well

  4. A Positive Update!

Took Stubby for a ride yesterday afternoon of about 3 miles on the same section of road that I had experienced the "Death Wobble". I purposely went over the dip in the road to unload the suspension coming out of it & nothing, problem solved! I will eventually do the kingpins, but for now I am going to concentrate on a little engine tuning & testing as I believe it to be a little low on power. It could be as simple as the throttle linkage, I also believe there may be a vac.leak. Time for me is always a big factor, so for now I will enjoy my minor victory!:D

    God Bless

Hey Bill, That looks like quite a handful and fun at the same time. Drive the wheels off of it.

  6. Hi Ron,

Hope you are doing well my friend, it is definitely both!:p

We have been blessed with some great weather this past week. I drove it again Thursday into our little town for fuel (about 7 miles round trip) with no issues. Laura thinks it is fun to ride in, but I want to quiet the squeaks & rattles so it is a little more enjoyable for her. She loves the 55 Nash though, so I am sure we will be taking that to at least 50% of the events we attend this coming season.

    God Bless

  7. It was! Bill took his son in law for a ride, another hot rodder in the making.

  8. I love Bill's Stuby GASSER! Its the cat's meow.

  9. Thanks Steve,

Mark definitely enjoyed the ride & we ALL had a blast at LLOYDFEST 2024! Anybody that didn't make it....Try Harder Next Year!

Since this thread has been brought back up, I should give an update on Stubby......

I have driven it over 50 miles round trip several times this summer to shows & cruises, one of those long rides Laura came with me & it was not really too hard on her. Her wheelchair does not fit in Stubby, so I took the walker & she is comfortable sitting in one of our bag chairs.

As I said in a previous post, my death wobble came from loose bolts on the passenger spindle bracket, I added the steering stabilizer & recently put Coker Radials on the front replacing the 6.70-15 bias ply tires. The car goes down the road at 55-60 with out any difficulty between 2800 & 3000 RPM (3.90 gear). Yeah it rattles a bit & shakes some, but cars like this are not supposed to drive like my XLR-V:cool:

    God Bless

  12. Bill, it was so wonderful seeing Stubby, Laura, and you! Maybe next year I could get a ride? We are so happy for Laura’s progress, and pray for you guys everyday. Please give Laura hugs for us!!

  13. Bill, I just went back and looked. Hurst Super Shifter in there! Good workmanship on the build. I was laying under it last week.

  14. Thanks Andy,

Great to spend time with you guys as well! Sorry I should have taken you for a ride this year as I believe you mentioned wanting to a few months before the get together, but Laura's situation has filled up my mind most of the time the last couple of months & I plum forgot.

    God Bless

  15. No worries Bill! I completely understand, we are just so happy that you and Laura got to come and enjoy the festivities!

  16. Laura & I took "Stubby" to the 9TH Annual Maple City Mayhem Show put on by the Prophets CC in Norwalk, Oh yesterday. What a great show put on by a local club with a great bunch of guys & gals!

I knew there would be a guy there who does lettering (Don Clarke), so I removed the previous owners city from the doors the day before & had him put our city on them as well as "Stubby" on the deck lid.

The club chooses the top 6 cars for awards & I was lucky enough to win one. I also opened up the cutouts & came in 2nd place in the "Loudest Exhaust Contest" to a rail with an aluminum head injected big block. At 7000RPM I was at 105.9DB, the rail was at 109.2DB.....I was shocked Stubby produced that number as the other 3 competitors were all in the mid 80's.

Just a damn fun day for Laura & I.

    God Bless

Awesome Bill! Stubby is looking better and better, that thing is just badass...good to see another pal from the other boards on here, I've been hanging out a bunch since I got the Merc. Glad to hear you and the family are getting some quality car time in, I know you're on the road a lot, and prayers for you, your family, and Laura sent my friend....now tint them windows green dammit!

    Your friend,
    Lucas

  19. Hey Lucas,

Great to see you on here my friend ! All prayers are welcomed & appreciated.

Man I love that Merc & I wish that I did not have to stop my runs out west or I would have stopped to see it already. Before Laura was diagnosed, I came through Twice coming back from Washington, but both times it was the middle of the night:eek:. Once she is better (next year) I will be back to running out there.

Funny you commented on the window tint (green)...I am actually transitioning away from the green & going to Blue, one of the 32 Fords pictured in my thread about the car show yesterday was blue with blue tinted windows. I am pretty sure Steve @chevy57dude will probably end up with the green wheel, helmet & shift ball:D. I'll probably paint the engine blue as well.

    God Bless

Stubby is looking better and better all the time! Glad Laura is feeling better to get out and do car things. Congratulations on the awards, I think? Just watch for the noise police.
Im still collecting pieces and parts for the Pontiac door latches, striker plates, all new emblems, tail lenses, outside mirrors, chrome hard top interior trim, and new tail lenses!

Well done on the trophy! Glad you both got out and about, makes such a difference going and doing normal stuff when you’re not well, keep it up! Thinking of you both.

  24. You would be more then welcome here Bill, I only live 5 miles from the big event.;):)

  25. I appreciate that @mad mikey !!!

As Laura continues the get stronger, my transport schedule will get a little closer to normal & I come by your area quite often. I will make it a point to contact you a few days before coming across, so maybe I could stop by for a "meet in person"..... That doesn't give you an excuse NOT to come to Lloydfest 2025 though!:D:p

Its funny, I used to go to Hershey long before I ever thought about advertising on web forums or basically even knew they existed. Now I am so busy, it is tough to get to shows like that in the last couple of decades.

    God Bless
