This one should be quick and easy for you Ford gurus out there and I know there's quite a few!

First off, the motor/tranny combo I'm asking about is the good ol' 289/C4.

What I need to know is did Ford change anything regarding the flexplate over the years (teeth, weight, etc.)? Can I take a flexplate from a '65 mustang and bolt it into a '70's or '80's small block???

I just want to know before I go to one of those "chain" stores and play the numbers game with the joker on the otherside of the counter...again.

    Thanks again everybody,

they changed the balance about 1980

and the size/tooth count also varied, it needs to match the bellhousing/trans case

The early models were 28 oz and have 157 teeth and the late models were 50 oz and had 164 teeth. Check the bolt spacing on your torque conerter also. check to make sure your tranny will bolt up to the motor also because if you have to switch your bellhousing it can be a real pain because ford made over 20 different bellhousings for the c4.
