upload_2024-2-9_4-29-28.png 1962 custom Corvair El Camino
    Hello,

As a former owner, driver, maintenance mechanic and overall house keeper of our 62 Corvair, I knew things about the two door coupe from stock to problem areas. It was a great design, known in some circles as the "American Porsche. " Which ups the category of cars a couple of levels. The rear engine flat 6, suspension, new lower to the ground design, etc. It had the ability to be much more. Some So Cal companies made a business of making these lowered designs go fast and others had the looks to back up any style.

We eventually ended up with a 1965 El Camino as our primary driver and it continued to make thousands of miles of trouble free driving and that made it worthwhile. The Corvair was my wife’s first car and although the original idea was there, it just was not up to par with the so called rear engine Porsche.

So, break out the pocket books, the art pencils and erasers to create an El Camino Corvair to haul…pun intended… ha! The flat motor created a perfect place to store stuff in a level platform, carry items and still fall into the economy car insurance levels. Of course new suspension and perhaps air shocks or lifts would be incorporated.

But, what about families needing more room and still be available for lower cost insurance for their daily driver? Or a young couple on the road for long trips and wanting secure place to sleep at night by the side of the road or at an oceanfront campsite?

A custom 2 door Nomad style Corvair Station Wagon would have fit the bill and definitely lower the insurance costs for a small car category. Just what the young couple needed in times of the search for an infusion of cash. YRMV
upload_2024-2-9_4-33-30.png Those Chevy designers did not know that original Nomad design looked so good on all other types of cars, including this two door wonder...

Folding flat bucket seats, small mattress or air mattress would definitely work for two “tallish” young 20 something folks wandering around So Cal coastal areas for a nice quiet spot for a well deserved rest stop.
Or, even into the wilds of the Baja Mexico coastal areas and yes, it would have enough power to get up into the local So Cal mountain roads for some winter fun, too.

Stock motor as it was? Perhaps a slow slog going up the steep mountain curves/slopes, but able to make it. (as reported by my wife in her last high school driving days for a So Cal mountain, lake side vacation with friends.)

I love the simple line border, makes the whole illustration come together. Beautiful and simple.

  18. A gentleman who worked for our company retired after 50 years. He has a nice garage with some cool cars and memorabilia in it. I wanted to show my appreciation for his friendship over the years.

Not mine, but a beautiful print I have owned for a long time by James Ibusuki.
Seeing as it's a Stone Woods & Cook Willys edition.

  24. I Almost forgot it was Friday! Prepping work for Detroit Autorama and drawing storyboards!

Keep at eye on the progress of this one. I've revised the original art for more appeal.
