Hello, I'm gathering parts for my model A roadster and have a model B motor for it and would like to convert the stock distributor to electronic. Would anyone happen to know the part number or availability of a pertronic's kit for this. Thanks
Have you tried contacting Pertronix directly? Even if the part is not listed, they may still have inventory. Or there is a new part number. Good luck.
FSI dizzy may be best for you to locate what you are looking for, or you may have to buy another distributor for the conversion. https://www.fsignitions.com/ Personally I only run points in my flatheads. Mallory dual point on my last B banger and it was stellar out of the gate. Best of luck man. You may try the Fordbarn forum also as alot of guys there have bangers also.
2nd FSI is what you want .... Give them a call and he will set one up for your application 580-762-8322
Keep it points but try and find a quality condenser [or adapt a capacitor] These things don't rev high enough to get any gains from electronic conversions
yes and no the engines don't have any horsepower to begin with so a consistent firing of the plug at the proper time with an electronic will help the performance. Minute gains make a difference Replacing the distributor cam with a reproduction one will help the mechanical....along with good bushingsand straight shaft. Snyders has a precision ground cam that is really good quality. My experience with the old, used distributors, on the distributor machine, is that there can be as much as 12-14 degrees extreme difference in firing between the two outlaying lobes. FS Ignitions has both mechanical and electronic. He is very personable and will try to understand your needs to match you with a distributor for your application
Just a point on the FSI dizzy -I fitted one on my "B" engine and the No1 cylinder plug wire is quite a bit further round than on the "B" dizzy so much so the hi performance wire for the No1 cylinder is almost too short !has anyone else found this?
The change to the FSI provided mechanical timing advance rather than manual. The FSI wasn’t really installed for high revs, but with it the starts were immediate.
