I’m finally fixing the half-assed back half that someone did to my Austin many years and many runs ago. Booger welds and no gussets. Thank goodness it was actually straight and level.

Before: note the spiffy body mount - I’ll fix that when I fix the floor.

After: the 1/4” plate on top may be the mounting pad for a new roll bar.

It’s been just a show car/limited street car up to now due to some poor workmanship. With that fixed, I’m having trouble deciding how far to go with upgrades.

Checking ring gaps and putting rings on pistons. Got about half way through and wife wanted to go out and eat. Food or shop time? I was hungry. So will continue tomorrow.

IMG_20240109_170156.jpg IMG_20240109_095151.jpg Fixing a well executed, but poorly thought out rear mounted battery in my 59 Ranchero, and trying to take the ugly off of what has to be the most effort I've ever seen put into a crappy paint job ever. Monochrome blue everything, minus the fenders my Brother put on when he had it. Not a fan of fauxtina, but if it makes it easier to look at, best 20 bucks Ive spent on it.( Not trying to fool anyone, just make it bearable until I can begin the metal work.)

I am in the middle of pruning a 4-71 case.

  5. Finally figured out what the noise was coming from the front of the motor in my recently acquired car. It has a SBC and an erratic noise at times that kinda sounded like an alternator bearing or something. After pulling the alternator belt, the noise was still there which was concerning. I decided to also pull the fan belt and the noise went away. That noise from the water pump is a new one on me. I have never had a water pump fail quite like this one to where it was just making noise. Seems the bearing in the front is going out. Anyway, I am just happy the noise wasn’t the gear drive or something internal. :)

  6. I'm still wiring, today was finding a place for the fuel pump relay

The craving for peanut butter cookies took over so I'll attach the wires tomorrow and come in and bake lol

Then I watched a cheesy movie called the Bronx Warriors, it looked promising with the California Kid looking coupe and the flamed 40 but the cars were a quick flash to never to be seen again.

When Chevy came out with that chassis it was second to Ferrari on the skid pad being the best.
We had one for awhile handled very good. A pain to get into though.

  17. I went to load up a th400 so my son can give it a going over and change the bolt on yoke output shaft for a regular one where he's going to school.
3 1/2 hrs later I finally got it loaded, the damn lift gate latch on my ppv tahoe decided not to open and there's no manual override to get it open, what a royal pain in the ass.

  19. We finished the carburetor install and fuel line job on the unmentionable street rod we’ve been working on. I tend to be a Holley guy, though I’ve had good success with Edelbrocks, and to my untrained eye, nothing looks better on top of a hot small block than a Holley. A little accelerator pump adjustment and that 400 Chevrolet runs great. I suspect the EFI has been giving trouble longer than the owner realizes and he will be very happy with the carburetor. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to hammer on a Small Block Chevrolet, I forgot how much fun it is. Sadly, the car it’s in is a rattle trap.

  20. I agree on the Holley deal…that’s my go to and what I think looks “right” for a four barrel. :D

That photo reminds me of the story about the guy hauling a 392 HEMI that became partially airborne on an emergency braking situation.

  22. I'll put the seat back in the up position before making the trip lol

Spent a little time Sunday afternoon putting the yellow down on the '41 license plates. Not perfect, but not terrible either.

I chased a similar noise on my 283 last summer. turns out it was the fuel pump. I honestly don't even know how it was still pumping.
