I am building a 1930 Model A on a 1932 frame. The engine is a SBF 302. Will a Dyers supercharger fit? Can you slow the supercharger down for a stock engine?
Friend of mine had a SBF in a Model A, with a stock style frame. The SBF is long enough, the firewall needed to be cut. Later, Ford came out with a shorter water pump, which would have helped. Can you get a blower manifold for a SBF ?
There’s lots of different “stock” SBF’s. You’ll need to know the “real” compression ratio, hopefully both the static and the dynamic (based on the cam). Be conservative going in. I’ve run McCulloch’s on stock and modified yblocks, and Roots style on OT motors. Great fun, but be careful not to overdo it. It’ll probably be detonation that’s the real enemy if you do, and that’ll kill any engine pretty fast.
Most 302s have between 9 and 8 to 1 compression ratio and can handle five pounds of boost with stock iron heads. If you can find a good one look for a 5.0 from a late 90s mustang or fox body Lincoln they have better rods and forged pistons then add aluminum heads and go for the gusto. These stock short blocks have run in the eights in the quarter.
I have roller 5.0 in my 32 . X grind cam , roller rockers , roller fuel pump eccentric , Keith Black pistons , GT 40 heads , it will rev like a Stihl Chainsaw . Only issue is the length of the overall engine , requires some crafty thinking .
