Hello all, I’m new to the thread and was looking for a little help. This was my grandpas rack and I believe he had it for 50+ years. I remember hearing it was a luggage rack from a 1932 Ford. Can anybody confirm? And if so what might it be worth? Thanks!
It appears to be a '32 luggage rack and in good shape but the spreader bar is missing, this is something a restorer might be interested in but I doubt a hot rodder would want it. I would suggest you ask for a value over on the Ford Barn. HRP
The luggage rack spreader bar is the jewel of this crown. They can be made easily enough using the ends off of the spare tire carrier and some flat stock for the mounting wings, but an original luggage rack spreader goes for $1K by itself. I'd have to venture that just a rack is worth around $200-$400
All the hardware, screws , nuts, bolts, wrong, the SS trim pieces are wrong (wrong end profile). Many of the holes that are punched into an original are missing. No picture of the back makes me wonder if it is a cast aluminum reproduction from the 70's If not cast aluminum it's still a reproduction, $200.00 would be very generous.
