Hot Rods Let's finish the 50 Chevy pickup

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Dec 29, 2023.

  1. Craziest thing was trying to find a throttle cable bracket. I went to advance, autozone, and o'Reilly's. Finally had to order one at o'Reilly's. Supposed to be there in the morning.

  2. I nipped that problem in bud for my Model A project. I ordered three different ones. They will all be wrong and I will have to get something else. My friends may need them one day, they wont go to waste. Thats how it will work out I am sure.
Keep up the work Lloyd that truck will be awsome. Kinda wish it was mine. Had a '51 way back when I was to dumb to stay out of trouble with the old man and he sold it on me.

I used the old stand by BIC lighter for heat shrink for years. Finally upgraded to a heat gun. Never going back.

Same here, I used to use a little butane torch. Now I use a heat gun. More better.

Drive up a dirt road and that filter won't be white any longer.

maybe put some black window screen around the filter.

  9. I'm not a fan of the valve covers and air cleaner period, I'd rather have stamped steel covers and a factory air cleaner, but for now it'll do. Gotta put bear claw latches in, cut door gl*** and windshield gl***. I'm gonna run a hand wire brush over the floors and throw some rustoleum on them. Scuff the dash down and paint it. Lot of little things to do. Need to take it for a little shakedown run.

Buy the door latches from the guy on the HAMB, not the "bear claw latch" people, their latches are not good. None of them are lockable, at least they were not a couple years ago. Just in case that is important to you.

That was why I hacked in a set of modern door latches in my truck. Lockable from both the inside and the outside (outside is by remote).

  11. I've already talked to Terry, he's waiting on me to send him money.

  12. Special thanks to my friend Alan, brought me up a roll of welding cable this morning and hung out at the shop with me for a little bit. I appreciate ya @alanp561 you're welcome at my shop or home anytime, I hope you know that sir  I ran the cable, so now the battery is in its final spot. Reinstalled the lower radiator hose, gotta get some antifreeze. Taillights are mounted, not wired up yet. And I cleaned the dash up and painted it. Still more to go. I welded the tailgate on, not like I'm gonna need to open it anyway. 20240216_172018.jpg 20240216_144026.jpg 20240216_172750.jpg 20240216_172810.jpg

You mean you're not going to haul a bed of engines like my hot wheels ???

    20240216_175440.jpg

I welded the tailgate on my 41, even though you really can't put much in the bed with the fuel cell and battery right at the back, but there's been more than once I would've liked to park my fat *** on that tailgate while at a cruise night.

  17. I always have chairs, and a cooler. So I figured what the hell. Another thing was those taillights, if I bought the trunnion's and chains, the chains would hang over the taillights.

Kinda late, since you've got it painted, but yrs ago I cut out between the gauge holes, made new top and bottom fillers and made a panel for a 5 gauge set.
