no pix, but my 50 came with that setup. the pipe was routed from the front outlet, up and back. i wasn't too crazy about its proximity to the battery so i deep-sixed it and called red's.

Just because this is back up, here's what you can expect from a warmed over 8BA with Red's Headers and straight pipes. I like my exhaust loud, but honestly it's a little too much for me. I have a pair of 12" Brockman Mellowtones that will go on soon.

First drive with my comical wife:

And a video my daughter shot for me:

Oh what the hell... Superbowl Sunday! Couldn't care less about watching guys in tights!

I just bought a set of headers for my 53 customline from Bob Drake for $120.00 including shipping and am very satisfied with them. They look exactly like the ones that Red,s are selling for $190.00 not including shipping

Speedways won't fit - Reds are good - the cast exhaust manifold for driver side from Drakes is very good, but you will still need to cut a hole in the cross member. If you have overdrive OMG have fun - be sure to find a very good pipe bender!!

I have a reds header exhaust setup-

I had it installed and then took it out when I started to do the bodywork- actually came across it last night in some stuff I had stored and totally FORGOT I still had it- thought It fried in the fire. Pretty stoked because I'm going to run it on the 49 I just picked up. I believe they're smithy mufflers-

They sounded really nice when I had them on my other shoe-

I have the Speedways cheapies. Just got the manifolds off & these bolted up- fit to the block is fine, I have no ch***is issues but I have a COE. The rest of the exhaust has to be fabbed anyway- I bought the 180-degree mandrel bends, so it's cut & weld time. Even the COE has the p***-side hole for the exhaust in the rear cab X-member, only snugness looks to be where all the levers come down on the driver's side (trans, driveshaft parking brake, 2-spd rear), but I still think it'll work fine.
The Speedways are fairly ****py inside where 2 tubes come together. Drake's are currently $98/pair! Is it worth spending the money and shelving the Speedways? Truck is getting duals.

EDIT : Going to take a look at cutting the manifolds open to grind down the pipe joints, then rewelding them.

Hi, this is an old thread and it seems that availability for Shoebox headers has decreased while prices have increased a lot. Reds are from 325 for plain steel up to almost 700 for stainless. Including shipping and taxes to eu this really sums up and I‘m thinking about building own stainless headers.
Are there any examples or advise for doing this?
Here is a speed shop for souped up VW nearby and they are selling universal exhaust parts like bows in every dimension. They said yesterday it’s ok to bring back unused pieces so i can buy a big set.
Of course they do not offer the flange plates to connect the header to the block. Is there a source for these? Or maybe ready dxf files so I can let these flanges lasered?
