Hi, I am getting ready to put a ford 9 in center section in the housing. My question is how important are the washers? Can a sealer be used in place of these and not leak? Thanks

you can get away without the copper washers, most guys don't bother with them.

Following on from the initial question do you find if you pull a bolt to drain the axle it stays dry when you put it back in?

I ****ed it out this time but need to do it again. My rear end is seemingly leak free, so much so I ***umed it must be empty when I got it!

Those copper washers are reusable. I hammer them flat and aneal them with a propane torch. I've never had a leak reusing them, but I have had one when I didn't.

I use them, they will likely seep a bit around the studs if you don't.
