One of my ongoing projects is restoring my dads old 53' Ford F-100. The whole project has been a fine line between restoring it back to a factory original f-100, and maintaining little character traits it's picked up in its life. One of those traits are it's hornS (plural). It was a bit obnoxious at times, but my dad was a joker and they fit him. As a kid, I remember counting 4 horns. They never all worked at once, but hoping they all will now. For one it had the original ****on horn. The original horn(s) are long gone and I've been trying to figure out what ford had on it originally and where I might find one. I have a couple old unidentified horns that could take it's place if needed. 2nd was a big air horn on top of the cab with a pull cord and 12v air compressor that also setved to power tools and air up tires. Before he p***ed my dad stated he didn't want to put the big horn back on the cab visually (he had the holes already filled in), but he liked it and I'm thinking about putting it under the hood somewhere. He also had one of those electronic musical horns that played "la coocaracha" and Dixie and 30 other ditties. I'd be OK leaving it off, but memories and all, lol. The horn I could use your help with was one of the old lever operated "bull horns". His old one died years ago and hadn't been replaced, though we still have the control lever for it. You can still buy new ones cheap, but they're plastic so I bought an old aluminum one of eBay. My question is with the sound they make. All the videos I see online sound a little higher and smoother pitched than what I remember as a kid, except for one video where the guy notes that it's 6 volt. This truck has almost always been 12v, but I wonder if putting a voltage reducer in before the horn would lower the tone? Any other multi-horn guys out there? I think my dads philosophy was that they're a lot like a good joke, there's always room for them but timing and moderation are everything.
And the standard 12v horn. I can't find much online about changing the pitch on these, and most sound like this one, so I'm wondering if voltage is the key.
A little off topic but funny as, I took the old bull horn out by our cows and they all came running looking for a hot date with a bull. It’s an old horn, but I don’t think it sounds much like a bull ,but the cows proved me wrong. https://youtube.com/shorts/zQuhrzXUZ4Q?feature=shared
