I started collecting parts for this project just about 10 years ago.. it was literally a pile of parts that fit in the bed of my 31 Pick up. after lots of ups and downs its finally on the road and debuted "Green Hell" at GNRS a few weeks ago. This car was built the old fashioned way.. in my garage and with the help of some friends , but largely by myself. 1929 Model A Ford Roadster 4" channel, raked windshield, reversed/custom firewall, custom floor, chopped 32 grillshell, modified Model A frame, 33 peaked & dropped front axle, 42-46 spindles and drums, 1968 bronco rear/3.70 tru lock, 8 "or 9" stepped frame, 1940 front spring in the ass end, Pete ans Jake's ladder bars, custom hairpins, headlight bar, shock mounts, tack strip, and interior, 40 ford steering box, balanced 1964 327, 10:1 , solid cam , worked 194 camel hump heads, Offenhauser 3x2 intake, M20 trans, smoothed and ceramic coated 2.5 corvette ram horns, custom 2.5 stainless exhaust , reversed merc centers on 4.5 front hoops and 6"buick rears. House of Kolor Kandy green over Sahara Gold base... Pearlescent white interior, green carpet-blah,blah blah... I had all the intentions of doing a build thread .... personally I found building the car and creating a build thread way too tedious. Perhaps I'll do some break out posts on some of the processes...
I enlarged the pics for you. way too cool a car to use those tiny pics, simply select "full image" when posting
When I saw pics of this at the GNRS it knocked it out of the park for me . Took me back to my roadster in the early 60s. Mine was no where near the quality of your build but the channel , stance . Even the bucket seats . Damn fine job , THANKYOU !!!
Thanks Tombstone! Your observations mean a lot, as building a early 60's style car was my intention..
Welp, I must admit, I heard this car before I saw it and the sound alone had my head spinning but I went totally ape shit when I saw it coming my way. It was Wednesday late in the afternoon at the Pomona Fairgrounds, I was standing outside the Suede Palace waiting to check cars in for the room. A job I have loved for 15 years or so. I love hearing and seeing the cars in motion. As I hear the rumbling coming from out of sight, around the corner it got my attention. With the rumbling getting louder and my excitement rising, my old friend, Tom Branch’s bitchin roadster is what I see first and following close behind I see it, The most coolest green roadster!!! OMG I instantly went ape shit. That car was soooo cool. Sits just right, the right combination of parts, the sounds of the exhaust. Whoa man!!! Tom waved as he passed by as I stared at the sight before me. I’m sure I had some stupid look on my face as I gawked over this green roadster. Then the sound of the two bitchin roadsters driving away, the sounds echoing off the buildings as they disappeared from my sight. Truly one of the best moments of the weekend. Bitchin bitchen car my friend!!!! I really like your roadster!!!!
Very Nice! I like the fact that it reminded me of AMT models I'd build in the 1960's. Nice period correct build. Bob
Man when Tom Branch posted video of this I knew I wanted to see more! Sounds fantastic and on closer look it’s all fantastic! Would love to see some chassis shots or any in progress photos. turned out great! Killer job man.
There’s always next year. Honestly, I was shocked that you were going to a different building. It would’ve been nice to have it in our building It was nice meeting you and talking about your roadster.
I had submitted my application pretty late, and figured I had a better chance getting in the main show. Anyways, it was good to meet and chat with you as well.. I'm sure our paths will cross again sooner that later!
They are silver soldered stainless steel.. i had the forsight to know that making the fixture to get them right would take longer than it would to make the one part that I needed.. so when it came time to make them I had Charlie Price at Vintage Speed fabricate them. At the time he was making them all the time..
