I start my grand kids out with a 32 flamed roadster pedal car, then they go through the stage of sleeping in a hot rod car. Finally the oldest grandson is old enough that we spent two whole days driving cars. He seems to still like sleeping in them and his first car is a 2012 Mustang; he is thrilled.
My grandson JW at 18 months after watching my son put the nut on the right wheel found the nut for the left wheel and screwed it on.
I would be more concerned about the Crocs, and not just in the shop but by anyone in society! The coconut bra gets a p*** that looks like standard racer, hot rod, car guy stuff to me!
Thank you @51504bat sadly I don't get to see him much anymore, I have 8 grandkids, all of them aged 1-7 yrs old. And don't get to see much of most of them much. We are in a battle with the state over my granddaughter that we are raising and due to cir***stances and a corrupt system the other grandkids don't come over much because their parents are afraid of repercussions of being around our granddaughter. Lawyers aren't cheap and we can't afford their fee's, we've been fighting for a year and a half now and I'm missing all of them....... .....
^^ Wish I had those toys growing up. I remember waiting what seemed like hours for a jeep wrangler ride around to charge just to drive 10 minutes, while continuously being stuck in the gr***.
All five of my nieces and nephews love old cars. My sister let my 13 year old nephew pick out his first vehicle from their fleet of vehicles (not as fancy as it sounds. My brother in law is a logger and rancher so a bunch of typical farm vehicles aside from my sister's late model mustang and Ford explorers lol) and without hesitation he chose the 390 powered 74 f250 simply because it was the oldest one they had. I figure at some point I'll talk him into putting the 390 into a late fifties ford lol. And last year for my youngest step daughters 14th birthday she really wanted to start my 53. And the look on her face as soon as it did fire up told me she'll either flip wrenches herself or become arm candy for a vintage petroleum primate lol

This group of youngsters, around 10-13 View attachment 5976326 years old, did what most hot rod kids would have loved to do. They earned their stripes by crewing for a vintage AA/FD running a blown Chrysler. They would do teardowns between runs at the vintage drags, with no adult supervision. They were good enough that the owner, Tom Topping, had requests for his "crew" to work for them......
Our oldest daughter Abbey turned 52 yesterday. Back in 1976, when she was four, she was the only person from Florida to win an award at the Tulsa street rod nationals. The Tot Rod (big wheel) race. But I don't have a picture so I guess it didn't happen. No cell phone cameras back then.
Man, I love to see these kids getting involved, and it is great you have the patience to work with them and teach them the skills they may never get anyplace else. Please don't take this wrong, but I sure wish you would enforce some of the basic safety protocells that should be taught along with those skills. If you don't teach them and enforce them, the kids will never follow them in the future. Having been involved with welding for many years and am now dealing with the skin cancer that is a result of all those years, it really bothers me to see those kids welding and heating things with a torch without gloves, arm protection, or even a leather apron or proper shoes to protect from themselves from burns.
Yep. We use gloves and ear protection regularly but we all have a bad habit of grabbing the welder for a fast spot without the gloves. I’ve got myself finally wearing gloves now. Especially tig. new jackets are on the way. Most wear long sleeve work shirts. We don’t wear gloves around tools that move. We cover the **** out of safety. We go thru lots of gl***es. All students have a respirator for spraying. We dont do all overs. Face shields and gl***es when grinding. But we got to get more consistent with the gloves. We got em laying all over the shop. The kid welding the Jeep is mine. We got gloves and jackets. But.
Student just finished welding. Kind sleeve welding shirt. ****oned up. Leather gloves and shield. He weld all my big stuff. Suits up like that every day. I think he wears the long sleeve work shirts daily anyway. but the tack weld pics is where we get in a hurry sometimes. I got about 12 more pairs of gloves on the way. And students starting to purchase their own. One brought her own welding hood today. I’m not a welding instructor. But we do cover MIG, resistance spot welding, torches and plasma.
My main heavy welding/cutting student. Looks like this every day running a plasma. I’ve basically got an open curriculum for Srs. We focus on what ever they want to that is affiliated with our cl***. This student loves to burn metal. So I keep him busy. Not sure what field he’s going into. But he’s great at whatever he does.
Hot rod Bugeye and my lovely granddaughter. She loves little old Brit cars! And one of my grandsons comes over to help wrench!
