Been a lurker reading on HAMB for years without joining but found something I can't find any info on. I picked up two grills this week. The '33 Chevy was easy enough to ID, but the other grill is unusual. It has no radiator cap hole, no emblem placement holes, no crank hole, no side holes for light bars, holes for attaching an exterior grille. So what do I have here? The top grille is a 34 Ford pickup piece. The radiator cap hole has been filled, but still has the holes for the stainless ring that was on the 34s only. Also looks like the holes where the wiring for the headlights was also filled on the sides.
Taboo is correct, '34 Ford truck with the top filled. Filling the radiator cap hole was a pretty common modification on old hot rods, although usually they don't leave the shape pressed into the top like that, this one has an... interesting job done there. But that's definitely what it is.
OK, so 34 Ford... that's cool. The side heights have been trimmed so I guess maybe they made it where the grill would sit lower between the frame rails too and give the front a rake.
I believe that channeling was popular for east coast hot rods, might have just been matching the body.
