    Wonder what a "soft close" is on an auction.

    That's the opposite of what happens to your butt cheeks:eek: when you realize you just paid way too much for a car at auction.

  6. SOFT CLOSE, The closing time of this lot will be extended by 2 minutes if a bid is placed on this lot in the last 2 minutes

    @jimdillon,

    I'm trying understand the various Midwest and Berkley Auto Electric Vettes. Like which cars were owned by who, drivers, and who might have wound up with them.
    Can't read the name on this one, but I'm sure you'll know.

    I'll have to dig out my copy of your book but thought you might be able to clarify.

    Bruce, I find this 62 to be pretty cool. I spoke to Ron Reader about the car a couple of times. On the roof it says owner, Ron Reader, mech, Butch Elkins. Of course it had a 336 small block and according to Ron it was one of the earliest examples of the use of a Watts Linkage. The car had pretty serious setback (in the 25% range). Ron said the car would most often run really strong through around 1000 ft and then often would turn left. I watched a number of these 25% Vettes and they always made me cringe. Fun to watch for part of the way and then hold on for the balance. The car was built by Butch Elkins who was very talented and was one of the best with working with cylinder heads during the 60s and later went to work for Dart. I have a set of Dart heads on my red 62 and they are excellent heads IMO. The car was later sold to Butch and he painted it red (copy below).

    One year when I took my black 62 to Autorama, Al Maynard came up to me when I was checking in and we talked about this car. Al drove it on occasion and he was surprised that I knew that.

    Cool car and would love to own it. Don't know if it survived. Butch lost his brother in a drag racing accident so not sure if he wanted to campaign a car that was maybe not so safe. 41A82595-4D13-4605-B37C-BE30969D1A02.jpeg.jpg
