The "Ice Cream Kid" by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, used as the cover of the Grateful Dead's Europe '72 LP.
I believe Mouse did the original sketch and they collaborated on the airbrushed final for the LP.
I think Mouse's hot rod connections render it worthy as a HAMB avatar.

Mine is my '65 Malibu running in Junior Stock at the Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs a few years back. It makes me happy to see it when it had TTO's on the front and warming up the tires.
Am waiting for Swade's avatar to show in this thread.

My oldest grandson helping me cut all the old wiring and hoses off of my 31'tudor donor motor.

He wanted to help so badly I had to find something for him to do and feel important at the same time.

Here he is a couple weeks ago, he still doesn't understand why it ain't finished yet and we aren't driving it already... he may have a small point though....

There is a cloud in the upper right corner of the picture. The snow covered mountain in the background is the next ridge over, probably about a 1/4 mile away. The car is parked at the outer edge of the pavement at that pull over, with probably a 600' drop off between it and that next ridge in the background.

They opened the mountain pass with a huge Oshkosh 4x4 truck with a 15' wide snow blower on it (it was parked about 3/4 of the way up, incase it was needed). There were places where they cut through a 10' high snow drift that still had straight vertical sides on it. On the one side of the top Visitor Center they had to cut back a 100' long 20' high snow drift to reclaim most of the parking lot, that still had the vertical cut wall too. I have no idea where my wife may have those pictures stored. The day we were there, the temp at the east side entrance to the Park (where we entered and exited) was 60 degrees, the temp at the summit visitor center was 34 degrees. It was a cool ride in more then one way, the coupe has heat, but below 40 is a bit of a cool ride.

My BIL lives at the top of one of the mountains about 30 miles east of the Park. His house faces east and west. Looking west from his back porch you see the snow capped Rocky Mountains, looking east, you see the city of Loveland CO laid out below. The gate to the gated community where he loves is 400' below where his house is. With the switch backs, its not a road I'm going to drive in the dark.
That trip included a trip to the Mount Rushmore area of the SD Black Hills as well. It was probably our once in a lifetime trip there, especially at that time of the year.

A photo I took at Bonneville salt flats in 2011. Who doesn't like the 32 5 window built by the Rolling Bones crew?

Mine is an overhead shot from just after I went from a tunnel ram to my new blown big block. The hole in the hood wasn't big enough, so I had to cut it bigger without hurting the paint.

Well all this talk of Aviators, made me want to change mine. This is of my 8 yr old neiphew crew chief at the drags. How did it get sideways- I'll have to fix it.

Cool to read the stories behind the avatars that you folks use here.
Mine is an original line drawing I did a number of years ago, of an abandoned '40 Ford coupe. Sandwiched that with an outline of my home state and it's been with me pretty much ever since I've been a member here. I sorta like it so doubt that I'll ever change it.

Because "Bombs are my business, my only business" (some of you will remember a similar line :)).
A fun fact few people are aware of. If a nuke is found somewhere in CONUS if it is a genuine "military made" nuke the USA government is responsible for rendering it safe and disposing of it.

However if it is of the "homemade type" (not military origin) then the State Government where it is discovered is responsible for rendering it safe and disposing of it. I'm sure there will be a bunch of nervous feds hanging around offering all kinds of advice and help.

So our bomb techs are sent to school on them and to take one apart, one must know how to build one.

Honest I don't yet glow in the dark.

Mine is my favorite character ,who doesn’t like Mr RF. I’ll change it to something more original to me one day.
My only regret well maybe not regret but wish I would’ve picked a more car related name. I build custom knives so I use the monicker Sharpone. Some very cool avatars out there.

  29. After I finished building my 32 many years ago I decided I needed something else to play around with so in my spare time so started to learn how to use Photoshop and the two naturally came together. Remember the old TV ad "See The USA In Your Chevrolet"

Needed something to go with the name, which was inspired by Spinal Tap's David St. Hubbins and included the types of cars I had at the time. The Race is gone and the Rod is still a project.
Since I look a bit more like Derek Smalls, that's what I went with. Kept the same one for many years, even when a member here offered up a clearer, more modern one. Finally decided that with the gray fully taking over and the beard gettin' long, this one fit better. Thanks to 41 GMC K-18 for the picture, he replied a couple pages back with more of his artwork.

I don't toss my IRL name or face on the net, so here's a modified shot of me trying on a T bucket for size 2 weeks ago.
The car had some questionable paint, so I did a quick Paint coverup, and pasted in young Derek.
I like being tall, but it does have it's issues with smaller cars.
