LOL - that era of pickup steering boxes are the good ones that people use to replace older ones. But best of luck with your project.

The pickup is still a bitch if you are not rolling. It the early box doesn't work I'll uses a Little Rascal setup with ropes & pulleys. Thanks I take all the luck that comes this way.

I think the one I sent is restored. I reached out to a guy about recasting mine but I may hold off on it for now. You know it goes though haha, people are selling those banjo horn buttons for that now. For now I’ll probably keep with my 42-48 accessory wheel I redid last year.

I'm keeping the parallel leafs in the front. The steering box mount is part of the forging for the spring perch. It will be easier to use the stock box if I can. I'll just have to see how it works out with what won't be stock.

  6. That's what I'm talking about! That steering wheel will look awesome in your hot rod! Speaking of my own, my buddy Dale and his son David came over last weekend and we finished the brakes completely and very proud of them. When I straighten up my garage, I'll take some great photos to show here and on my thread!

Looking forward to it!! Did you end up using all the original components? I wanted to keep chev brakes but man I couldn’t find parts and if I did they were super expensive

  9. Unlike your hot rod, I needed to add front disc brakes and residual valves to my brake system to help stop with that massive hemi... I had all Chevy brakes in the beginning, mostly '53 Chevy drum brakes in the front and rear '63 Chevy drum brakes in the rear as well - along with a scary single piston '53 Chevy mc. In this day and age, you do whatever is possible for safety!
What can be said more about running a big block 348/409 Chevy in a vintage Chevy hot rod? AWESOME!!!! Where'd you find those air cleaners? The parts you're purchasing and installing on your '35 continue to amaze me and others for sure!

haha that’s true, I’m trying to keep mine as a50-60’s style hot rod. Now if I had fenders I probably would have been subject to change it. My 65 gmc has drums all the way around and had some pucker moments with the one pot master.

They’re grace & co, but hear drive remakes them now I want to say. I had those scoops on but wanted to set it apart a bit.

Got some of the trans tunnel cobbled together(well the first part) and the panel for my pedals done and painted. Tank mounted as well as ground/hot cables ran. Made a battery box as well.

floor will eventually have carpet so didn’t care too much how it looks. I should be getting my seat back from upholstery this weekend.

Man that thing looks great, do you plan on painting the frame or powder coating? Are those rear ladder bars from rjays? I think I’m running the same one. I always liked how hairpins looked and wish I went with though.

Whats the drop on that front axle ?

Bothe of you are doing Chevys proud!

31, Rethink you drive system and mount the Hemi sideways with a big chain! The breaks look grid. Usually I don't like things that look like other things or that have to be hidden but you pulled off the front brake thing. I am finding that I am having to make concessions to get the '26 like I want it.

Snoop, that's a lot of progress! It is looking good. Very good proportions.

My '53 pickup & '70 Blazer use the SAME 11"x 2" brake drums. They work better on the '53. With the 16.5 wheels & big tires that were dealer installed on the Blazer when I bought it at 60 mph you might as well have been dragging your feet! Just too much rotating weight & leverage. They were not on it long. I also installed a disc set that Vic Hickey sold. It was worse. I Think the '49 Huck brakes I'm using on the front are 11"x 1 3/4". I'm using a Dana 44 from a '68 GMC 4x4 (same as the Blazer) and I'm trying to figure not a 2 1/2" option finned drums for the back. I have to find the right backing plates. Shoes & drums are easy.

Appreciate it, currently just trying to get it roll for lone star round up in April. Then I’ll come back and really tune it all

I made a 4000 mile round trip to the Roundup once.

  20. I'm leaving the body and frame bare steel for the time being, hoping I can use some polisher (Eastwood from what I heard from Dale's son) to give the metal that smooth, even "brushed look" that I've envied all my life... The rear ladder bars are from Millworks Hot Rod Supply in New Hampshire and are really bitchin'! The Speedway Motors '32 Ford front axle has a 4" drop and MUCH MORE BITCHIN'! Remind me what front axle you went with on your '35.

I'm glad that you feel approved about pulling off the front brake thing - thank you sir! Keep at it @Six Ball!

I'm running a ford axle 33-36 axle. It's dropped axle I got at the round up last year.

  22. More old school traditional with the wishbones - killer look! You'll be one of the few Chevy hot rods at the Roundup - representing us in style brother! Wish I was there with 'ya!

Maybe so but I really like the look of the pins. Ended up chroming them along with the backing plates.

had to represent the chevys! Our paths will cross eventually. I plan on driving this thing every where.

Those are some nice chrome pieces and deserve to be used.

I found a 30-31? Chevy headlight bar that is solid and a lot like Ford to use for my headlight stands. I have another set form 34ish Chevy trucks that I may use. This all depends on if I use the 30-31 headlights I'm putting together and whether my 4 banger will push them through the wind. If not I have a smaller set. Some of these decisions will be made during assembly when I cam actually see the proportions. I also found a set of tube shock mounts used on a '40 Chevy model that still had a beam axle. The are a lot like Ford F1 shock mounts. I'll try to find some pictures.

Are the Chevy headlights the twlite’s? I was thinking of maybe using a pair of them as well. Are they seal beamed? I have some guide 682-C’s that I fixed up but it’s a common light so thought about changing

Yes I think they are. 10" or so. One of these were converted to sealed beams & looks like crap. I found good reflectors and am installing modern bulbs. If that doesn't look too ugly I'll use them. I have a set of smaller Guides with the park light bubble but these are on the side and the park lens housing is missing and different from anything I can find. If I use them I'll have to make or modify something.

you have some 904A with the bubble on top? I've been trying to find a set of those for months lol

  29. Chrome plating these parts came out excellent! Any other front end parts for plating, possibly your axle, etc?

Can't wait to see your interior pieces from the shop that you hired - surely will inspire me to get my buckets done in either white or white pearl with a Tangerine/Orange colored piping or sorts. I bought '59 Ford Thunderbird buckets that just barely fit inside my coupe, having only 42" or so between the door wood... Your progress is impressive - GO MAN GO Brother!

I thought about chroming the axle but I didn’t want it too look too over the top. The next thing I will chrome will be the garnish molding. The car will have some rough spots like the grille, door handles and most of the body work lol.

I ended up with a k5 blazer 3rd row seat that I had to slightly narrow. I really like white seats that something I thought about doing but I’m
Always dirty lol. How much you think it would run you to get both buckets done?
For now I’ll be the seat; I’ll go back clean up the inside before I get that done.
