Hey Guys, New here. Had a 1929 Model A Tudor fall into my lap. I wasn’t looking for one but it was too nice to not keep it. I’m new to model A’s but not new to cars. I was a red seal mechanic but left the trade and started building commercial smokers (Bog Line Smokers). Looking forward to getting this car back on the road and looking good. The car. As mentioned it seems to be a late 29. Canadian car from what I can tell (Robertson screws and CAW engine code). It came to me running and driving, but leaking coolant, slight engine knock. Brakes are pretty well set up steering is sloppy. Oil was clean but very over full. Drained the oil to proper level and engine sounded much better. Car needed too much to go for a proper rip. Fuel tank doesn’t leak but it has a lot of crud which makes the needle and seat leak. however, the body and ch***is are very complete and in very good condition. This is what I love about it. Nice patina. I can deal with mechanical stuff all day. Not much of a body man aside from welding in material. I plan to lower the car with springs, keep mechanical brakes, I already found 35 wire wheels (thanks Metorpete), run 7.50-16 rear and 6.00-16 Firestone bias ply’s. I’ve also found a 32 rear tank and rails. Seats are already at the upholstery shop. I’m now working on window regulators, window channels and new gl***. Aside from a tiny hole there are no sheet metal repairs needed. No bondo, very ‘unmolested’ car. I also need to tackle the top wood and a new canvas top. I have also secured a ‘back up’ engine and transmission that I plan on modifying for a performance banger. I’ll attach a few photos
Awesome! I'm also building a '29. If you haven't already, join the Ford Barn. Those guys know their Fords. As far as reproduction parts, trim and whatnot, I've used Macs, Mikes Afordable and other vendors. Not sure about A parts, but later 30+ transmissions and motors, I'll only deal with Van Pelt. Looking forward to watching your project.
Welcome aboard, Ya come to the right place for the direction you're taking this. Lots of knowledge, help and experience here. Not into the whole 'plan-ahead' mech. brakes & 4 cyl deal ,but have fun.
Pickles and George. A Labradoodle and Bouvier. I told the upholstery shop to put durable material on the seats as these two bone heads love car rides!
Thanks! I hear ya. To be honest I’ll likely start building a ch***is and driveline from scratch, one day when it’s ready just make the swap.
Welcome Bogline. Looks like an awesome start, I vote you keep the patina the way it is, looks great! Lots of good knowledge on this site that has helped me tremendously. Goodluck!
Great meeting you on Sunday, Bogline and can't wait to see progress on your build. Reach out if any questions - there seems to be a number of us here in Southern Ontario currently working on bangers!
Good looking Tudor! The way you describe it, it sounds a lot like the '31 Tudor I have. I'll give you the edge though as it sounds like you have a solid plan already in place for the car. Me, I have at least 3 much-different ideas for my '31 so I don't dare start on it until I have made up my mind 100%. I'm so undecided I'm thinking it may not even be the right car for me. I look forward to progress news and photos. BTW.....your shop mates look like a fun pair! Lynn
Lots of car guys in our area of the world. A number of traditional hotrods in London and Kitchener areas. Welcome aboard.
