I'm gonna use a turbo 350 on a project and would be interested on the tail mount opinions. Solid or rubber? Not drag racing or anything, just a cruiser. Thanks, Bumpstick

Unless there is some special reason to the contrary, you definitely want rubber.

When you are running solid tires, solid motor mounts and solid axles with no springs, use solid trans mount. :p

Get a quality mount, unless it's really easy to change out. Lots of cheap stuff out there that isn't worth your pennies.

  7. What motor mounts are you running? Because that will dictate which transmission mount

heh...so if I'm running one solid motor mount, and one rubber motor mount, what transmission mount do I use?

answer: rubber, because what the transmission mount attaches to isn't very strong

Even if I used solid motor mounts, I’d use a rubber trans mount.

Not to add to the confusion, but this is pretty solid. ;) IMG_1603.jpeg

Anybody know what the height of that mount itself is?

I need to build a mount for my 31' Tudor with a 727 and I can't use the stock mount, gotta build a custom one...

Your best bet is to find a parts store that still has paper catalogs with dimensions. However, the second best is to look through Rock Auto at different years and body styles. I checked a few and although they didn't have sizes, they did have pictures.

My mounts are a set from Energy Suspension, very good quality, zero complaints.

With the stock cars, some guys used solid mounts. One had a hard crash, bent the front clip and the solid mount took out the side of the engine block.

For a street car I can't think of a reason you would use anything but a rubber trans mount. It doesn't take much to crack a transmission tail shaft housing. As to the height of the mount, they are easily shimmed if needed.

Even if you run solid engine mounts, if you run solid trans mount you risk cracking your tailshaft. You need to have some give in the mount setup. In addition, in street car a solid mount will transmit more vibration and noise to the car. Just use a rubber trans mount.
