I posted this roof on a Jeep page. Their expert said he’s never seen a top like it.
    Could be homemade.
It was bought near an air force base and removed from a m38
If it’s homemade the builder had to have an air craft background

  4. That’s great!

  5. They need to get another "expert"! That type of top was a common military top (in both the short version as shown and a full length version) as well as civilian models. They used to be very common in the Pacific Northwest in both styles. One possible manufacturer was BesTop. More common in the pre-CJ5 era.

Never seen a Willys Jeep build on the HAMB...love those old flat fenders a lot...I think I have had 4 of them over the years...cool little trucks for sure...

    Thanks for sharing on here...

  7. I’ve seen em as well.
It’s the 2 windows in back and style that’s stumped the guy
I can’t come up with one that looks like this either.

  8. May have been an option. Or maybe, just maybe, you've got one rare prototype that is worth $$$$ on the Jeep Accessory Collectors market that will fund a complete restoration of your son's Jeep. After all, every time I see an old car ad that states "rare", the sellers always equate that to mega bucks!! (I get a kick out of ads that state: "Rare 1 of 1! The ONLY do***ented 1961 Chevrolet Impala with a 409, 4-speed and single exhaust! Hurry....this car will sell fast!")

  9. Well, my son paid $40 for the top and doors.
    Not too bad

  10. If it was built at the base, they did a great job

Maybe try www.ewillys.com I am on there daily and Dave who runs the site always seems to be able to give an educated guess or better on tops that appear on Willys Jeeps that he features on the sight. I had a wooden one on a previous California Willys that worked it's way to Iowa. Was really well designed and built with very well fabricated metal hardware. Have fun

Looks like aftermarket to me instead of home built. I had a similar full top on a CJ5 several years ago, but mine was a little flatter on top, it sloped up to just behind the drivers head, then leveled off.

I just s****ped the mate to that gun rack a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't find a mate to it around here, so I threw it on a load of s**** I carried to Farley's. Would've given it you if I knew you would need it.

  13. He was the expert that couldn’t locate a similar commercial top.
I thinks is a well made on base built top

Cool project! I've always liked the first gen flat-fender Jeeps. I like them stock, not so much from a purest perspective, but more "if it isn't broke..." sort of thing. My 7 year old son has expressed interest in jeeps already, so I figure one of these days I need to find a project for him to start on, that way he won't have any time or money to get in trouble with, and he'll have something to drive when he's older.

Jeep is cool, but the real build is your kid into a man! Great work!
