So this had to be late 70s, early 80s maybe? Used to be an annual car show/swap in Allen Park, MI. One year this car shows up, a channeled down early roadster, old black, Duvall windshield. Incredibly it had a 427 SOHC motor up front for all to see. What struck me was the small plaque on the dash. It said, "If this one doesn't scare you you're already dead." which may have also been a tag line from a movie. Anyone? I'm sure the car made the rounds in the Midwest, and now decades later I still recall wishing to see if I was indeed dead. The HAMB often works miracles, this one might actually be easy. How many could there be?

Nobody? I would think a channeled roadster with a SOHC burned its image into any rodder of the day.

No help here, only had layovers in Mi in the early ‘80’s.
But wasn’t there an old thread that got bumped up a year or two back about some street racing In Michigan? Danged if I can even recall the ***le of the thread though.

I live in Allen Park, grew up in Southgate. I don’t recall the car, but I will ask Teddy Z later this week and report back.

  5. I believe that was Gay Peifer from Windsor, Ont.
Edit: Make that Amherstburg, Ont. Gay lived just down the street from the Windsor Raceway (horses).

  6. I contacted Gay and got this response:

Mike here's 2 pictures , the one is the way it looked at the show, the second one is when I first set it up for the salt flats, this pic was taken at cobo hall. The car did burn up in a fire before it was ever raced. The ch***is did run at Bonneville with a gl*** 29 with a early ford v6. The car is being rebuilt but sadly with a different motor ....thanks for the heads up ...gay 20231113_112213.jpg 20231113_112232.jpg

That might be it. When I saw it, no lettering, and I don’t recall the roll bar but maybe. It was early in the season, he and his cohort were bundled up, April in MI, go figure. Did it have the plaque as mentioned above too?

  9. Yes, it had the plaque. Gay was friends with a number of us in Motor State Street Rods and came over for alot of our events, including our shows/swap meets when we held them in Allen Park on Southfield just west of Allen Road

Yup, I was always there. That's awesome, left a permanent impression on me as a young'un. I was raised in Allen Park and Mrs Highlander has a salon there these days. I got out tho, rural northern Monroe for me. Ok, here's one more that was local, our car. 36 3W, Chevy motor to 39 trans, had a copper n white tuck n roll interior and an Impala wheel. Not sure when we sold it, last time I saw it Tru-Spokes were added and it had a Prudhomme fueler air cleaner that was flamed. We sold it for $3,850 in the 70s...:(

Tell Teddy Z, the Kid from Northwest Oklahoma that sold him and Greg Flury car parts in the 1980's and early 1990's says Hello and hopes all is well! I sold Greg Flury the bullet nose front clip for Frankenstude and Teddy Z 1936 Ford Fenders. I believe the car they went on was called The Suntan Sedan, not sure if my memory is correct. Somewhere I have a magazine with the car in it. It was fun selling parts to them because after a while the cars came out in the Magazines. Sold one of them a solid 1946 Ford Coupe. Teddy Z would always mention Rattle Snakes since I live in Rattle Snake country. I have several Christmas cards, some stickers and an uncashed check from Teddy Z. (he sent a check for the wrong amount or something else was added to his order that made the total different, He just said don't cash it I'll send another check) He Always treated me good!

.Is Greg Flury still around? He was building some wild stuff back in the day.

Kirk, I’ll tell Ted. He hosts a very informal get together every Thursday night. If the Suntan Sedan was beige, after Ted sold it something big fell on it and crushed it. The 46 coupe probably ended up as a Sportsman convert. Right now he’s working on a 40-something GMC pickup.

Don’t recall that roadster, but do remember the spring swap meet in Allen Park. It was small but a yearly go to.

Thank you! I think the Suntan Sedan was beige, It is nice to know he is still building cars. If I can find an item I misplaced I would like to get it to him someday. May be you could help?
