What I have is a SUPER nice 64 Falcon conv w/ a 6 cyl & 3 on the tree. I also have a 65 Mustang that the body is junk, but has a nice 289 w/ C4. I know this will fit, but what about the steering, brakes etc? I'm thinking this all fits, but I may be wrong. DAVE

I was always uinder the impression that the inline 6 and V8 cars used almost entirely different front suspensions. Dunno how different the Falcon is, but it's worth looking into.

The 6 and V8 cars do use different suspensions. The steering linkage is different, springs, tie rods, spindles, etc. You can swap it all over, it all bolts in, but if it is all old and used you may want to replace with new parts anyway. Luckily the parts are easily available and cheap.

The only problem I found when I did the front swap was the turning radius was reduced in my 63.......but you would never know that the car has manual brakes......Other than trying to make a U turn I love the swap.

The hardest part you will have is finding a Granada. I too thought they were still relatively common until I bought one to pull the engine and brakes for my Fairlane. They are 30 years old now. In the last 6 months I have seen only 3 others in the Sac/SF area and they were all in junkyards. One held onto it's front spindles for about 2 weeks but I think that was only due to the fact they were moving the rows of cars and it wasn't with the other Fords.
I thought about not parting it out but then I got my Fairlane running and the Granada now looks like a steak dinner again in my eyes:D

Thanks for the info guys. Yes, I knew the 6cyl & 8 suspensions were different, I was just hoping that the mustang stuff would swap right out. Mines a 4 lug setup. Thanks again. DAVE

Check the upper ball joints. If they both have 4 bolts then you have the right front suspension. Some of the 64 Falcons had 3 bolt ball joints and you have to change all the control arms on those, but the Mustang ones will fit. My 64 I6 car has 4 bolt ball joints already. You will need Falcon steering. The Mustang centerlink is about 2" too wide. Try to find the entire steering from a 65 V8 manual steering Falcon or Comet. You could also buy the center link (about $150.00) new and use the Mustang tie rods if they're good or just buy new ones. The Mustang pitman arm will work. As far as I know everything else will just swap out. Just don't junk the mustang until you are completely done with the swap in case there's a little bracket or something you need.

Oh yeah, the Granada swap is always good too. I think a 74 Maverick Master cylinder is the one you need. Other disc donors include Mavericks, and 69-70 Mustangs, maybe 71-73's too but I'm not sure.

I meant that I would use the spindles/rotors and engine for my Fairlane. After I finally got the Fairlane started from it's long slumber I glanced over at the Granada and it was like the cartoons.... ummmm steak....:D

As far as paying for Granada parts... what parts besides the brake ***embly?

I am only putting the engine in to get it running and driving well enough that I can do all the other work that needs to be done and enjoy it, in the meantime I will build up a new engine for it.

You talkin' to me? Or Shifts? I guess it would apply either way;)

Hey I am dying to know what other parts on this Granada besides the brakes would be worth a damn? From what I have found, possibly the rear but other than that no one seems to care about sheetmetal. Am I wrong?

BTW, so what are you going to do Shifts?

Grenadas came with a variety of rear ends. Could be an 8", could be a ****rel 8.7", some came with 9" (with drums and with discs). Any of them is a near bolt in for a Mustang or Falcon. The perches are in the same place and only some minor mods are usually needed for the u-bolts.

They are about 3/4" wider (3/8" per side) than a Maverick, and about 1/2" wider than a 65-66 Mustang. They'll fit an early Falcon if you pay attention wheel offsets.

The steering box is the same as a 69-70 Mustang, but no better. It will have the same ratios, either 19:1 for manual or 16:1 for power.

The front sway bar is a cheap upgrade for a Mustang and may fit a Falcon as well.

OK, I think that's the whole list of usable Grenade parts......

Thanks Mustang Six, I wonder if people will one day be looking for these crusty old Granada's like we do now with some of the other lesser liked cars of the past? If this was an old shoebox I found in this condition I would be ecstatic. BTW the car only cost me what it would cost for the brake setup on ebay, it runs and drives and I have even taken it to work a few times.
Sorry if I hijacked your thread Shifts:eek:

Thanks again for the info guys. I located a 65 Falcon V8 car for all the steering & susp parts. Looks like my 57 9" is gonna fit real good too. DAVE

Be sure to get the throttle linkage too. It's different on I6 and V8 cars. Get the part that bolts on the firewall.
