Ok nipple jokes aside........ We have a 57 Ford in the shop that has a 460. The issue is you can only get about a half a turn on the oil filter. We removed the nipple, and it looks to be the same one that I can find in every corner of the interwebs.... It is 1-1/4" in overall length. Is there anyone that's ran into this issue, and if you did, how did you fix it? Any info. is appreciated. Thanks
Did the gasket / O-Ring from the previous filter stick to the mount, effectively shortening the nipple? I have seen it happen, especially on a freshly painted engine.
No. Newly rebuilt block only ever had one filter since the rebuild, other the other ones we have tried.
Need one of these… https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...usg=AOvVaw1cuicFNRKZDEYUEOv14TQP&opi=89978449
I read this same thread, but from my understanding it makes the port bigger but it's still the same length? I was going to call them but that don't have a damn phone number that you can call..... email only. SMH.... I can email I will resort to email if I have too...
That is one of the concerns I had but haven't been able to fine a definitive answer on that if there is a difference between the two.
https://www.amazon.com/VIPIH-Block-Filter-Insert-Adapter/dp/B0CNSMRQ9F Did your block have the factory oil cooler adapter on it with the incorrect fitting for an oil filter?
I f that’s the case then it would be female thread for the long hollow bolt which is SAE thread and would never work. I have that style on my Boss Mustang and it takes a 1 1/4” hex socket to remove it from the block. The link I posted is the one you need.
So now I hear that Ford even used different oil filter adapters between engine families ? I admire you guys for really going the extra mile for your engines . Tommy
Yes it’s awfully complicated, there are two, one for y-block / Fe that bolt-on the side of the block and then the thread on style for everything else.
Is that a 460 block,,,,,good looking (beefy) ,main webs in it . The 429/460 engine was one of the best Ford made ,,,,very powerful and sturdy . Tommy
I couldn't reply on your motor picture, but that is exactly what I need! Thanks for the pic, that was great! Mine is like the one you posted in the Amazon link, so that explains my issue. I knew there was something not right. Now off to find one. I appreciate everyone's help, The HAMB to the rescue again! Thanks Guys!
