I went to a little swapmeet in Wichita KS last friday and bought a few things. It was small but there was actually some really good stuff there. I bought a original 32 shell and insert for $500 A fresh all tricked out 8ba motor that a guy had built and drove for only about 3000 miles before changing his mind and replacing it with a SBC. Motor has a 4" crank, Egg Pistons and a isky jr cam. It is ready to drop in and go paid $2400.00 for it. I thought just about everything there was priced fair and ended up spending the whole 5K that I took with me there. Hell I was so out of cash that one of the guys who went with me bought me a sandwich for lunch and if it had not been for having my credit card with me I wouldn't have had gas money to get home. LOL Anyhow the one thing I did not buy (that day anyhow) was a Original Scot Blower setup that the guy who was there selling it had it since 1965. He had a price tag on it for $6500.00 I do not know what these things are selling for in todays market but I thought it was a good deal. So I visited with him for a bit, got his number and headed home with my stuff. I could not stop thinking about that blower. I had a guy come up to my place saturday and he bought a 32 rolling chassis I had and a nice set of 32 18" wheels but I was still short of having the cash to buy the blower. I went to the lincoln NE swapmeet on sunday and tried to get the blower off my mind and dropped another $3900.00 up there. Now if the guy still had the blower I was really short on cash. I called him monday morning and he said a lot of guys took his number and was going to try and pedal their stuff and buy it from him but he had not seen any money yet. I decided right then I was going to do whatever to make a deal and get it. I offered him $5000.00 and he said he was going to stick firm at the $6500.00. So then I called a buddy of mine who has been bugging me about some speed parts I have had forever. I was thinking I could sell him those parts to get the cash I was short. I was disappointed when he said he had decided to go another direction and no longer needed the parts. But he told me to come get the cash anyway and secure the deal on the blower and just pay him back when I sold some stuff. So yesterday back to Wichita I went to pick it up. No I need the pulleys and drive stuff. I do not have a problem machining them but I need dimensions. Does anyone know someone who has a scot setup that I could get measurements off the pulleys from? Please do not say what everyone has already said which is "Try H&H" He was very short and clear on the phone this morning that he doesn't sell the scot stuff anymore. Regardless of what it takes at this point I am invested and am going to get this Blower that has not been on a car since 1965 back on a car ASAP. Any help is appreciated. I will purchase parts or travel to measure if someone has pulleys. I have already reached out to one member who sounds promising.
Your best bet is to contact "Ronnie Roadster", aka Ron San Giovanni. Ron is extremely knowledgeable about SCoT blowers, and he makes some parts for them. 1-203-269-1932.
H&H Flatheads Mike Herman doesn't sell Scot Blowers anymore but his father and brother do. They had a booth at GNRS this year and Max Sr. was super helpful with questions I had about the install.
My suggestion is to start with the crank pulley. Once you have the crank pulley its easy to transfer the pulley dimensions up from there. Hopefully you have a lath or a friend who has one that's willing to help you machine a piece of aluminum round stock . When I build a blower drive I start with a 59A double grove crank pulley. That's ground zero and then I work up from there. You only need two groves for the 5/8 wide belt sections which will work perfectly up to the boost levels the blower will put out. For a belt tensioner I use a generator or alternator the mount for this would also be a custom deal overall simple with aluminum material as well. Your blower is identical to the original designed ITAL blowers so its an early ScOT both versions will work fine as long as there's no pot metal gear on the driven rotor {PS}. Remove the front cover to see if both gears are steel. Ronnieroadster
There's a lot of factors you need to consider. maybe I missed it, what car is this going into? Are you using the 8ba you purchased? Are you going with mechanical fan or electric? What are you using for motor mount? Do you want to shut the hood? Stock generator or alternator? Belt routing and size? How are you going to adjust all the belts? I would suggest not buying anything till you put a lot of thought into it and lay it out. With my setup, I went with 20% overdrive to achieve 5-6lb boost, with custom crank and booster pulleys, the water pumps are stock duel 5/8 inch.
I would suggest taking the blower apart and checking it out. They are fairly simple and replacement bearings are available, but you can screw it up if done improperly. There's a good article from the 70's on how to rebuild them I can send if you need it.
Yes, I have rebuilt 2 italmeccanica 4000 and one S.C.O.T. supercharger. I have made those upper pulleys (cast iron or alum. Tappered hole with keyway). Crankpulley is easier. Sometimes I have used original Ford crank pulley. With Harman Collins magneto need to use smaller crank pulley. Problem with old Italmeccanica/Scot -superchargers is (many times) gearwheels. They havent check oil and wheels are less or more worn. Seals, bearings are good to change and check same time right clearances. Rear end is so called "fixed end" where You can use shim washers (0,1mm, 0,2mmm, 0,3mm) and front end is "sliding end" where rotor - end plate clearance need to be bigger (expansion). Basic metric bearings and seals used there. Aulis
If You want, I can update Your supercharger (bearings, seals, clearances,....). Check if gears are OK and I have original upper 2row v-belt pulley -> my friends have Haas 5 shaft CNC machines, so we can make new. Lower pulley I can make from industrial 2row v-belt pulley or by CNC (alum.). You need to send supercharger here, Finland (+100usd?). Or You need to open it and check it over. Aulis
Definitely. They had separate booths at GNRS and Mike was not helpful when it came to Scot Blower questions. I see he has recently deleted all Scot Blower equipment from the website yet leaves articles posted about being a close family run business. Very disheartening as he's leaving his customers stuck in the middle of this. Max and Max Jr are great guys, call them direct at 818-279-4174 as they handling the Scot equipment.
