Not so easy today but today IS much easier to do a restoration than it was 40 years ago.

  2. Salmson recently discovered in France. No mention of the car in the left of the photo. Pics from PWC.

I ran into this video on youtube by accident. It's all in German, but the action speaks for itself.

Beautiful work. My guess is that he doesn't use that for racing. It would be too heavy with all the added stuff.

I guess everyone has seen the extensive build blog of the Jappic. I think 2 of them have been built.

I believe it is finished and I've seen videos of it running.

Just did a Google search and almost nothing about this beautiful build. All I found was a HAMB post from 2017 (by you - Lol!) , and the same pic of the engine on FB. I wonder if he was inspired by Mark Walker’s GN Thunderbug?
I’m just amazed as a mech Eng by folks that decide to “just build an engine”. To me even with a manufacturing background, it would seem too daunting of a task to even contemplate.

Cable and bobbin steering was quite common on the lighter cyclecars.

Brendan Dillon's creation is a monster, I've seen it run at a local historic race meet, a very interesting fella.

That Salmson is in beautiful condition!

Could be inspired by Mark's work. You know sometimes the sane things can be accomplished worlds apart for one another without any contact. Before i saw either I thought about grabbing a couple cylinder assemblies from the many Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Wasp engines around her and doing the same thing. I do have access to he equipment but not the time. Each Wasp cylinder is about 156 cu. in...and 2 would give you a 310.I even thought about making a four cylinder BMW boxer engine using 4 cylinder assemblies from 900 cc engines.

The Dudly is nice, but I don't believe it is the car in the b&w photo. Besides the front transverse leaf mounting/kingpin and rad cowl differences, the caption with the photo I posted is as follows:
"A True Cycle car with Solar lamps manufactured by the Badger Brass Manufacturing Company. From the Albert J. Tanck Collection. 1913."
I have, however, been unable to find any further information about "True Cycle" . . .

I know of a number of examples over time, where idea's are formed in different parts of the world at a similar time without any connection. It's quite fascinating :D
