what fuel pressure regulator is used to keep the fuel pressure at 1 1/2 to 2 psi? i have used the dial type and it didn't do anything. if i turned it from 1 psi to 6 psi it just stayed at 7 psi. what was used on the early flat heads to keep the pressure low? thank you for your help.
The dial type, regardless of name brand is trash in my opinion. What is your input pressure (I assume 7 psi)? What is your required outlet pressure (what carb (s) are you running?
I second the Holley regulator. I have been using these for over 30 years and the quality has dropped off in that time but they still work well - I am running 4.5 psi at the moment. Cheers Turns
There's a low pressure & a high pressure version of the Holley reg , be sure to buy the one you need .
Just a little advice. None of these regulators are correct as far as readings go. I tried several and used a master pressure gage (1/10% accuracy) to check them all-none were close to correct. One, a dial type with numbers on the body, showed 4psi while actual was 7psi. I picked one, set it to 2 on the readout and it really was 3-3 1/2. Do a check with what you intend to use to even get close.
The one I listed was checked on multiple cars with a gauge. They were very close to the regulator dial readings.
I've used the Holley regulators for every build I've done and always had good results. I hear some guys say they change pressure when the engine bay heats up, but haven't seen that myself.
I also use the Holley, and I have a pressure gauge screwed into the extra port so I know what it’s adjusted to.
Holley 12-804 on the back of the blower. Low pressure gauge on the fuel block. Been on there for several years and no issues. Always 2.5 PSI.
My deuce pickup came with one of those Chinese units with the dial on top. One day I saw a leak with fuel coming out from under the dial. Lucky it didn't burn the truck to the ground. Now has a better quality Holley in line with a gauge.
