I’ve noticed two spam posts in the last dozen hours. I just reported one. Both appear to be from long term members but only one post. Are these posts being generated into looking like long standing members or maybe the members accounts have been hacked. If either I’m guessing it could be a serious problem.
It's typical for spammers to create accounts and let them sit... sometimes for years... before actually posting... They do this in times of spam filter effectiveness.
Thanks for the reply. The join dates struck me as weird, one was about 5 years old the other about 8. Nice to know accounts were not hacked. I did up my p***word difficulty quite a while ago on every thing I visit.
We had this long game on a watch forum. A member posts a sale item, which sells fast or gets taken off. Those who show interest get PM from another, year-long low post count member, to sell the same or similar watch. Both may even work together, or are the SAME person. But that sounds very tedious and inefficient.
Heres another that showed up 3 hours ago. Must be nuts to save a fake account for 13 odd years just for one spam post . Or do they have a life sentence and a old PC. Note, times are for here , ( Euro )
Another pretty common thing that happens is that a data breach somewhere else will give spammers common logins. They will then send these logins out through the web testing effectiveness on every site that they worm. When they find one that works, they use the account to post spam. That's why it's important that people don't use the same logins on every site they frequent.
