I'm on the downside (I hope) of building a '41 Ford business coupe. I rebuilt a small journal 327 and a rebuilt turbo 350 behind it. I'm using a 1406 Edelbrock. It's been a few years since I bought a detent cable. I'd just buy one for a Chevelle, but thought since I was using the 1406 instead of a quadrajet, someone on here has already found the right one for the 1406 if it's different from the stock one for quadrajet. I prefer the stock look over a Lokar if possible.... although I do really like their shifters!!!
Don't over think it. the pieces to hook the Chevelle detent cable to the 1406 are readily available if you don't have them already. I'd dig through my detent cable brackets and see what I still had in the pile.
The bracket for kickdown cable for the Quadrajet(4 bbl bracket is different from 2 bbl), and the correct "pin" on the throttle arm, are all you need to hook it up.
I don't have either bracket but I was just wondering if there's a GM cable that works better... I've built the lower half of this body and I'm nearing the end of the build. It's nearing the end and I get impatient with finishing details (a bad trait), hoping to avoid buying three cables or so figuring what works best with turbo 350 an 1406... I'll muster up some patience, make a bracket, make it work and quit whining .
https://www.amazon.com/Fitzall-TeckPak-TH-350-TH350-Detent/dp/B01G99UVJU That cable is adjustable for length and will fit any application
If you don't want to mess with it, just plug up the hole in the transmission and go without. It's easy enough to manually down shift.
You're right! I just ordered the above mentioned cable. As I mentioned earlier,I know this is petty, but I do all my work except for building transmissions. When I get near the end I have no patience for these types of things.... thanks again
