I Acquired this 30 Pontiac Roadster in October of last year, my first traditional hot rod. The car was constructed as a TROG car and ran down the road when I acquired it. My intent is to keep it looking and running like an early / mid 40’s hot rod. Gonna keep the mechanical brakes and the Stovebolt. Needs lighting, an electrical and exhaust system and just gone thru overall to get it ready for spring! My spouse complains I’m spending too much time in the shop! Like a kid with his first tricycle!!!
Cool Hot Rod!!! Get her out there in the shop to help. You guys can have a lot of Fun under an that old Indian.
So my mouth gets ahead of my brain occasionally as well. . There might be a reason for that slip up however, the 30 Pontiac roadster body is mounted on a 32 Chevy chassis. Didn’t realize I had made that error!
Nice little rod gotta love the Native American (Indian) head rad cap with the pony tail very kool what’s the story of the engine? can’t make out the emblem on the rad shell
The engine to my knowledge is a 52 Chevy stovebolt six splash oiler out of a pickup truck. Coupla bolt on speed parts. The rad shell is a 28 Pontiac and I believe that the Indian rad cap is original to that rad. He lost his original head dress which was part of the casting, the fellow who assembled the car replaced the missing head dress with a striping brush.
When G.M. bought the Oakland car company in '31 they used some of the Oakland flathead V/8s in some of the 32 Pontiacs. I have no idea the displacement or HP figures but they sounded great! Almost bought a pristine 32 Pontiac 4 door once. It had the V/8 with a 3 speed. Love your roadster!
I was confused about that O.V. engine. Now it's clear. Get it runnin' and drive it like it's stolen ! Nice change !
So, I’ve been working on my roadster every chance I get. I’ve gone through the mechanical brakes and brake linkage and have them working well, took it around the neighborhood twice a couple of weeks ago! Shortened the shifter which used to interfere with the dash and steering wheel. Rebuilt the carbs, tune up items. Rear axle bearings and seals, changed all fluids. Ordered a battery tray for a 55 Chevy pick up after seeing one on HRG to hang the battery under the car, that ended up taking a bit more fab work than I expected to fit to my intended placement. Recently all the components to fab up the exhaust arrived, spent the last couple days gabbing up the exhaust system, pretty pleased with the outcome. My TIG skills are not up to the task of finishing up the welding, for now they’re adequately tacked that I can take them to a pro to get the results I want. Moved the oil filter off of the intake and to the firewall. Next challenge is the electrical system, I have a hot rod style harness which I hope to begin installing soon. Have lots of ideas, many of them will havta wait till next year as my goal is to get the car on the road this spring. I’ll try to continue to post occasionally as I get the car closer to road ready.
You heeded the maxim in Hot Rod Magazine over 30?? years ago "Dare to be different" I am a little jealous, you have got a good find there!!
