I had to pass by this "thing" every day for years on my drive to work. One of the joys of retirement was not having to drive down "the strip" and see this (and other crap).
Then, you go and post it!!! The flashbacks have started.

This needs a safety pin through the hole in the handle so it doesn't bounce out.
I was probably 12 before I ever saw a ball hitch and it wasn't ours.

  4. At least that hitch is adjustable.

My neighbor welded a receiver hitch on the back of his car trailer so he could pull his other car trailer at the same time. He was into rock crawling. Guess he needed two rock crawlers in case one broke or somethin.

Road trains are big in some places. I don't know where else but in Nevada you can tow two vehicles. Semies can tow 3 trailers. I'd be surprised if it is different in Wyoming. I think it comes from the needs of agriculture & mining. If you can't grow it you have to mine it. You can't grow much without tools made from what you have to mine. Every piece of every car discussed here is a result if farming mining.

By the looks of the tongue bar, and its position on this hitch, I'm guessing this trailer doesn't see much tongue weight. Probably every bump the trailer sees lifts up the back end of the tow vehicle.

In high school my buddy's family would go camping with a camper. His Dad drove a van, he had a trailer hitch
installed on both the front and rear of the van. Someone asked him why he had one on the front, he told him
that sometimes when they went camping he liked to bring their boat also.
took the guy about 5 minutes to realize he was pulling his leg. He used the front one to place the camper in its camp spot, much easier when you could see where you where putting it.

I knew a guy who bought a pickup with a trailer hitch on the front bumper with the story the prior owner had a steep driveway and couldn't back a trailer up it but he could push it up.

pulling doubles is legal in Wyoming. I pull my boat or side by side behind my 5th wheel camper all the time. My point is two bumper pulls in a train can get really squirrly especially if you dont get enough tongue weight on the front trailer or the back trailer has more weight on it. That back trailer can start whipping side to side and drag your ass any where it wants to take you. Including dirty side up.
Dont think its ever a good idea to pull 2 bumper pull trailers double. Friend hooked his boat behind his bumper pull camper to head to the lake. He said when he got on the interstate about 60 he could feel it pulling him around he looked in the mirrors said he could see the ass end of the boat go from the passing lane to the shoulder and back, scared the shit out of him, he couldnt get it shut down fast enough. He pulled over unhooked the boat, pulled the camper home and came back and got the boat.

Last I knew pulling doubles in CA is legal if the tow vehicle is over 8500 GVW. The middle vehicle has to have trailer brakes. A commercial drivers license (CDL) is required along with a valid medical card. I don't think the middle trailer has to be a 5th wheel but I'm not positive along with the GVW requirement for the tow vehicle.

Most states require the two trailers to have different types of hitches. So no two ball hitches or pintle hitches. Ag trailers are usually an exception at slow speeds. Found that out after towing two boats back from Arizona. Picked one up in Cali had a hard time keeping it on the trailer without an engine. The second one I picked up in AZ and towed both of them behind my dually. It was a fun trip.

Road trains are very common in the Aussie outback. Loooooong, and operating on dirt roads. Takes some courage to overtake your first one in the dust cloud.

Some of the Aussie states allow four trailers, up to 175 feet length. When they approach, you get off the road. Right off the road, into the drainage ditch, and let them pass by. At more than 70mph they push a lot of air (... and dust, rocks and road debris). Overtaking a road train full of cattle (and their excrement) can be an interesting adventure. Remember to wind the windows up first.

Harv, That is what I was thinking when I said road train.
29 Av8 I totally agree with you. And the rest of you just be careful when you see those things hat others take on the road. The scariest thing I ever towed was just a '63 Caddy on my 16' trailer load backwards. Pulling it with a 1/2 ton pickup. It was the only way we could get it on the trailer and no way to get much weight on the tongue. I only had to go about 20 miles but that was plenty.

Along the Gulf Coast Interstate 10 corridor (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas) it very common to see Mexican Caravans. These consist of usually a pickup flat towing two cars. It appears they remove the bumper covers (in bed of pickup) and weld brackets for tow bar to sub frame. Usually pickup bed and cars are chocked full of items. They usually travel in groups of three separated by a mile or so. Occasionally you see a box truck with car in back also pulling two cars. All the cars and trucks usually have some kind of body damage. All headed south of the border for rebuild and resale. They trave at about 60mph and I have never seen one sitting on the side of road with problems.

Not just I10, you’re liable to see them anywhere in AL,MS, and GA. GA busted a couple of them at the scales last year, they had some of those Japanese cabovers like Isuzu and Hino, with one sitting on the flat bed of the lead truck which was flat towing another flatbed with a car on its bed. Got them for no CDL, no insurance, and overweight. Made them unload the trucks but let them flat tow one each. And they had to bring in drivers with CDLs to drive them.
